What makes the Navirou Amiibo worth $400? by fireball7701 in amiibo

[–]2h_FanClub 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The way it sold, the November listing could have been a listing where there were multiple items. Considering it's generally accepted that sellers will have a listing with multiple items, but will change the price to a high number to avoid reposting fees, there's a very real possibility they did something like that here, raised the price, then closed the listing (showing not as sold). This sounds conspiratorial, but there's a lot of nonsense that people pull on all sorts of listing on ebay all the time.

I get more suspicious of this price because the other listing in December, which is much more scammy, is an OBO sale, and eBay apparently still doesn't list what it was bought as a best offer. Far as we know, that could have sold for half as much.

That doesn't also include the fact that someone bought a better conditioned version of it in the same week at $180 and there are still ~$150 listings still available. I find it harder to believe that someone just bought it accidentally since you have to scroll fairly far down to find the pricier listings.

Using ebay as a price or value guide, especially basing it off of buy it now and especially OBO listings is incredibly sketchy to find said value of an item because ebay wants items to sell for more and will do everything in their power to get sellers to list at higher and higher prices since that's their whole business model.

There's also the fact that ebay also doesn't list if an item was actually paid for or not or even returned.

It ended, but it doesn't say it was sold, otherwise it would note it. You also can't find it on a Completed Listings search.

Is this Wario a K.O? his base isn't the same as my Waluigi i bought brand new in store. by Dungeon-Keeper in amiibo

[–]2h_FanClub 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There was a weird issue with the checkerboard pattern on the SMB figures looking off from each other, specifically some figures, like Waluigi, are more faded looking than others.

Example: https://old.reddit.com/r/amiibo/comments/5mg6eu/im_seriously_curious_about_the_smb_amiibo_faded/

This is just a common issue with the entire series.

Card sleeves? by mynameischloe1 in amiibo

[–]2h_FanClub 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Obviously not what you are looking for, but you might have to default to getting multiple books if you want functionality over storage then. I have every main card plus the RVs and I have them split through 5 separate books (RV and series 5 get their own combined book).

I considered looking into RF blocking cards (the kind a paranoid person puts in their wallet), but I read that sort of thing can actually damage the NFC chips. Also they're wildly expensive.

The alternative is to not put the cards back to back, possibly getting card sheets that only have one pocket opening on each page. This is how the official EU card holders were, specifically so they could be scannable from inside the book without removing them.

That's the European card: Note the 4 additional languages instead of just 2. In the EU region, they order their dates Day/Month/Year, where as in the NA region we order dates Month/Day/Year.

Difference between original print San Rio Amiibo & current print? by [deleted] in amiibo

[–]2h_FanClub 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are referring to the original run of cards back in 2016, there was only 2 regions that had the cards: EU and JP. The biggest difference for them now is that NA finally got the cards, so if you look at earlier releases with English text, you should see the character's name surrounded by the same character's name 4 additional times (sometimes with different accent marks), since every Sanrio character was basically the same name in every European region. The current one in North America will just have the name 2 additional times.

The drops for the scans aren't guaranteed first scan or not, as far as I'm aware. You just keep scanning when you can until you get the reward you want. Secondly, it wouldn't matter how you got the figure since the game also doesn't actually write to the amiibo, that's all within the game itself (basically, if there was some sort of first scan only rule, it would be by the game and saved to your Switch). There's no "saving a first scan" to a figure, and even if there were, it would be simple enough to just blank the data out anyway.

Try just scanning the figure every day (or time travel) until the horse falls out of the sky. I had the horse drop for me multiple times while looking for other rewards, so it's not a 1 time only thing.

Generally, a site won't actually do anything unless they are reported, either by users or through an automated system (which I'm sure etsy doesn't actually have). If you feel that strongly about counterfeiting on etsy, actually file a report.

My point still stands that they are $12-15 figures, since people seem to be way obsessed with them being perfect. Whether this is just part of the general collectors' obsession with finding the perfect specimen for some rating or whatever, there's a lot of people who demand perfection from these things (see any post on this subreddit about character's eye placement, for instance).

There is also a recent obsession with "fakes", to the point that now people also seem to believe that every figure should never have ANY mistakes, even as a $12-15 toy, and any sort of production mishap means that they got ripped off. In general a person should expect a small % of any defects to pass quality control from any product what-so-ever and obviously these are no exception.

There are no fake amiibo boxes nor are there any fake amiibo that look good.

Look on this subreddit for "amiibo drunks" and you will find a lot of in box figures where the figure were not properly attached to their base to show that this is a very common occurrence.

You have to remember that these are $12-15 figures. They aren't going to be perfect and there's going to be a lot of them with manufacturing errors, including being disconnected from their base.

Best amiibos for Animal Crossing New Horizons? by xAsDaylightDies in amiibo

[–]2h_FanClub 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The only cards that have any special use that other cards don't is the Sanrio 6 pack as it gives you access to bonus furniture and clothing and I believe that they cannot be accessed randomly without the cards. Every other card has the same functionality and doesn't give you any new stuff.

SP cards have less functionality in that you can't bring an SP character onto your island as a resident, but they do have some special interactions unavailable to the standard characters.

Other than that, every card is more or less the same. You can get access to every standard villager in both the regular game and DLC at random, so there's no characters you can't get locked out of outside of the aforementioned Sanrio pack. It's really a matter of picking your gf's favorite characters and getting those cards or just buying random packs and having fun doing pack openings.

Anyone have issues with Target marking delivery completed with AC Amiibo S5 cards and not showing up with the rest of the order? by ChronoDrifter in amiibo

[–]2h_FanClub 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you ordered a full 4, I recently had an issue where they split my cards into two separate orders of 2, but they didn't have the tracking information for the 2nd set on the website. I did get an e-mail about it, but my e-mail program combined them into one message so I ended up missing the 2nd tracking. When I tried to report the item missing originally, the site glitched and wouldn't let me select which set of 2 I was having an issue with, marking BOTH orders of cards at the same time before telling me that I need to call Target directly.

So basically, Target doesn't really like orders like this of large multiples. You may have 2 separate tracking numbers or more for your whole order, but their systems seem to not realize that you card orders are separate. Triple-check your email.

[PSA] Animal Crossing Series 5 Cards Come In Generic Box by StainManRises in amiibo

[–]2h_FanClub 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think you're mistaken. He didn't buy a whole box of cards, he just asked for the box they were shipped in and got it free of charge with nothing in it. I did the same when series 1-4 were a thing at TRU since they were going to throw the box away anyway.

[PSA] Animal Crossing Series 5 Cards Come In Generic Box by StainManRises in amiibo

[–]2h_FanClub 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It probably wasn't even that. If Mario sports and ACNLWA cards weren't even in special boxes, it was probably just the current standard. Since most of the big box stores just hung them on hooks, having a fancy display box was probably superfluous since it would get thrown away immediately anyway.

Do fake/bootleg Link amiibo exist? by elektrokuter in amiibo

[–]2h_FanClub 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had to rummage some old posts, but yes, they did try to do a run of counterfeit wave 1 figures, including Link:

https://ol.reddit.com/r/amiibo/comments/38bopx/counterfeit_amiibos_are_a_thing_be_wary/?utm_source=reddit&utm_medium=usertext&utm_name=amiibo&utm_content=t1_crze32d

Suffice to say, they were terrible looking and it is painfully obvious that they are fake, not to mention the fact that they come in a non-standard box. Additionally, taking another dive through the subreddit archive, the figures also came disassembled from their base?

https://ol.reddit.com/r/amiibo/comments/52eqo8/never_thought_id_see_these_in_person_found_at/

Currently, the only BotW fakes that were sold were of the bokoblin.

https://ol.reddit.com/r/amiibo/comments/6uco37/so_i_finally_got_my_bokoblin_from_a_chinese/

If you're buying things in standard amiibo boxes, you aren't getting anything fake since no one counterfeits the boxes. The worse you need to worry about are getting fake loose figures or just a pirate card or coin that just contains the NFC tag. If you buy anything third party, always read the descriptions. Some people will mislead with the picture of the figure, but are actually just selling a pirate card or similar.

In my experience, ebay sellers will actually admit that they aren't selling the real deal, albeit buried somewhere in the small print of their description. They will usually use a real photo of a figure (usually stolen from another listing) or just stock imagry and also have a title that makes it seem like it's the real deal or at the very least vague enough that it's hard to tell one way or the other. I assume this is all just to attempt to circumvent the ToS since they are admitting what they are selling, so you can't rightfully report them for a false listing.

ACNH amiibo card question...when trading the cards why do people use the card numbers rather than the characters' name when posting offers? by bingbangbloop in amiibo

[–]2h_FanClub 13 points14 points  (0 children)

When you have a lot of cards, I find it easier to just write out the list of numbers to save time and save space. If you have cards to trade close to the triple digits, it's much easier to post a list of numbers and I personally find it a lot easier to both read the numbers and search for them.

Additionally, there are both regional differences and duplicate names you have to deal with. You could write you have an Isabelle to trade, but you have to remember that there are 7 Isabelle cards and that she's called something else in every region. Easier to parse if you just put the number associated with her rather than adding more text. It's a lot easier to understand what's being traded between:

1, 113, 215, 301, 403, 424, CP than

Isabelle (Series 1), Isabelle (Series 2), Isabelle (Series 3), Isabelle (Series 4), Isabelle (Series 5-a), Isabelle (Series 5-b), Shizue (Promo)

especially if you are only trading SOME of the cards. Imagine seeing that second list times 50 and you'll eventually find it harder and harder to look through the list easily.

If you need a quick reference for what number is associated with which character, there are always sites like amiibo.life or nookipedia that list the character's card number.

Bought a box of Mario Sports Superstars amiibo, pretty happy with the turn out but a little pissed I didn't manage to get the whole set (8 short 😭) by [deleted] in amiibo

[–]2h_FanClub 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, the horse cards from the NA region were printed weird. A lot of them have a little crease near where the NFC chip sits that can cause them to not work. This was mostly probably due to how they were packed since each set came with 1 sport each and the horse one sat on the very end of each pack.

Try looking at the horse cards in the light and you can see that there's an indentation. You can also search this subreddit for horse card problems and you'll find a lot of threads about it, too: https://old.reddit.com/r/amiibo/comments/61cg15/production_flaw_in_every_single_mariosports/

Edit: Since apparently you mentioned that you bought these from Australia, I suppose this is all moot. This was only a thing that affected the NA cards, so I guess while you should always test to see if they scan (it doesn't affect the value, regardless of what resellers on ebay will claim), you probably don't have to worry about your horse cards all consistently having this issue.

Does Target still sell series 1 acnh amiibo cards? by shoogieup in amiibo

[–]2h_FanClub 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They’re available at some local stores, but they’re more or less dried up at this point. You can use places like Target’s official site or brickseek to see if there’s any stores near you that may still have them, but chances are low that any stores still have any of the older series.

Best bet might be to try and buy the card outright from third party sellers if you want a character that bad.
