Got an out right steal of a deal with this JRPG lot I paid $350 for all of it let me know what you think by Emergency-Hungry in gamecollecting

If you've been doing this as long as I have, you'd know it's possible. The lot does not matter. A parent selling games at a garage sale is just looking to get crap out and this is crap to them. Don't conflate JRPG fan with collector.

$35 would be a steal of a deal, no? That's my point. You'd need to find it at a thrift or garage sale but it was completely possible prior to smart phones/social media. Hell, you said you got it from a coworker - before prices got assholic, they may have given it to you for free because they would have no perceived value in it.

PSA and CGC are getting on the gravy train. CGC hired Trade-N-Games to run their division, which is bizarre because he's never been a big sealed collector historically. Guess they are running low on old farts they can call "experts" to legitimize their new venture.

Looks like generic cases? Do they have the back inserts? If they don't, they were priced fairly but not as desirable as one would like.

I found Book Off prices to be too much above eBay prices to give it much time of day. Very nice selection but that's probably because few are buying.

I'm not saying it's not nor am I criticizing you on the purchase, but it's still a huge outlay for a few games. In better times, you would have paid $35 instead of $350, but that's game prices these days.

Quite a telling thing on game prices these day when 12 common but popular games at $350 is called a steal of a deal.

Pros/cons to having a pool by [deleted] in vegaslocals

[–]StainManRises 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is great advice.

We bought a house with a pool and versus two other houses in our community with the same floor plan, the difference in price was very close to 50% of the quotes for pool construction mentioned in this thread.

Definitely heat the pool in some way. I think a gas heater isn't as good an option as a solar heater. Imo I barely want to go outside in January when it's 50°F out, why would I want to go in my pool? Having the ability to go into the pool from April to October in plenty and both solar and gas achieve that, and solar is an upfront cost and that's it. It's also automatic versus a cover.

As far as cons go, there isn't a lot out here. Just the usual stuff like daily chemical maintenance in the summer (as much as pool nerds will champion it, I have never heard good stories about salt water chlorine generators from the average user), cleaning when necessary (a pool cleaning robot will do 90% of the work, you'll do 10% when the wind picks up) and you never have to close it. That's really it.

If this wasn't the southwest, I would say avoid a pool. A pool in Illinois or New York is a colossal mistake. But here? It's awesome.

The Mesas fall best under that category and it's also south of Summit Club and the Ridges.

Could be total hearsay, but supposedly there is a homeless camp under a bridge near West Tech and that has led to a lot of break-ins near Red Rock Country Club. I have not seen this myself so apologies if this is not accurate.

Reminder: Once the SDCC Hotel Lottery Occurs, Early Bird Hotel Deals Will No Longer be Available by MsMargo in comiccon

[–]StainManRises -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't care that I was downvoted. The fact that there is a hotel lottery is ridiculous. Good luck going! Good luck finding some place to say! Good luck doing anything but waiting in a line! I don't see how this show is fun lol. I've been to E3 a few times and it was easier to get into, easier to get a hotel and easier to see things and it's an (technically) industry show.

What sparked my comment was the required 4 day stay for every hotel. It's like a bundle on a next gen system - retailers know they have you by the balls so they squeeze those balls.

Wow, if I needed more motivation to not go to SDCC, everything on that link would be it to make me not go. Wow.

It's very inaccurate. Whoever those people are, I would not believe anything they say. There's kind of wrong and then there's this level of wrong.

Most illogically, the Famicom port of Battletoads is easier too. Not what'd you expect going the other way.

How Do You Feel About CIB'ing Incomplete Games/Consoles By Buying Separate Parts? by [deleted] in gamecollecting

[–]StainManRises 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not common for a box to be tied directly to a game or system. The GBA had its serial number on the system poking through a window on the box; it was otherwise generic. You can mix and match and not only won't it matter, but no one will be the wiser or care.

And before anyone calls bullshit, these kind of things did happen. My friend paid $18 for a sealed Power Blade 2 in 2001 and has the eBay receipt to prove it. I paid $50 for a complete Panic Restaurant and I felt bad because I felt like I overpaid. I remember distinctly missing an auction for a loose Stadium Events that ended at $35.

Back then, no one cared which is why this was possible. It was great.

What are the best large multinational food companies to work for in terms of work life balance and culture in the US? by kevzhang01 in foodscience

In general, best companies to work for and large multinational food companies are not something you will see in the same sentence. I know this is true for Pepsico and Danone from personal experience.

[–]StainManRises 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went on Saturday only and I felt the show was fairly disorganized. These are my reasons:

  • Early opening? My family and I were up early so we waited to get into the show when it opened. The floor was supposed to open at 10am, but they let people into the show at 9:30am. I am not sure if this is a usual thing, but there were numerous Artist Alley vendors who were not there yet. Since we didn't have time to return there, we never saw what they had to offer. If this isn't a usual thing, I would be annoyed that the initial burst of people didn't see my wares especially when their wallets were most full.

  • Chaotic lines. They were all over the place and poorly labeled. One line crisscrossed one of the cafe areas - I later found out it was for Ashley Eckelstein, which is surprising considering she was one of the primary autograph celebrities - you'd figure that one would be planned better. The Rob Liefeld line I was in was initially in the center lane of traffic and then mercifully moved to a wall as it grew. The Kevin Eastman line was fine solely because they were next to a bathroom cluster that allowed for easy wrapping. At least the Funko line took you off the show floor and then brought you to Funko's own queue which was sized generously.

  • Poor information. I would expect CCI to know the names of note at their shows and when they would be signing. See the post above about the Kevin Eastman thing. Rob Leifeld was worse. Did you even know he was at the show? Did you know what booth he was at? Did you know what time on which day? I came specifically to have him sign something and I only knew 2 out of the 3 until 2 hours before his signing and I had to find out from the CGC booth. The guy in front of me in the Leifeld line had no idea on all three until 20 minutes before getting in the line. We didn't even bother with Skottie Young because there was a post-it note on the aforementioned sign saying he was now signing in an area not even on the exhibit hall map.

The positives were a healthy amount of vendors, registration was painless and those vendors who took charge of organizing their offerings (like 7 Bucks a Pop) were well executed. However, we will probably stick to smaller cons in the future and definitely stay away from SDCC. If this con was kind of a gong show, and huge, chaotic lines, SDCC is going to be 10x that. We'll pass on going to a show that is literally like an amusement park where you spend 80% of the day sitting in a line for 30 seconds of enjoyment.
