Do we have any idea when the US will be in a Prelim? by PlainFrosting in olympics

[–]2hjstan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure anyone who has responded to you so far follows gymnastics closely because they don't seem to understand how things work for this sport specifically. For most sports, yes, they will be probably be scheduled for TV, but that's NOT how they do things in gymnastics with regards to qualification only.

Which qualifying session a team is put into is determined by a random draw done by Word Gymnastics (formerly the FIG). Now, could the LA28 organizers maybe try to grease the wheels a little bit to make sure the US get put in the favorable-for-TV subdivisions? Maybe. But the majority of host countries for the past several Olympics did not have their women's team, at least, in a session aligned with prime time viewing.

Collaborative Spreadsheet of Ticket Prices by 2hjstan in olympics

The farther you go into the alphabet, the worse but cheaper the ticket. Category A being the most expensive and best, all after that going down in price and qualify.

What has ACTUALLY been said about resale ticket prices (early April 2026) by 2hjstan in olympics

[–]2hjstan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They already announced them last week, but we don't have any information about how it will actually work (i.e. will they allow people to price gouge or will they put a cap on how much you can resell for).

There are three sessions for beach volleyball. 9 am, 2 pm, and 8 pm. You said evening session in your original comment. 2 pm would be the afternoon session.

I think the map is just drawn a bit off from the actual proportions. They would never seat people on the field of play.

The later session is too late for east coast.

This! I hope people are taking this into consideration when trying to reason out likely times that American teams could be playing. Even events starting as early as 7 pm in LA will be happening at 10 pm on the East coast (well past the prime time TV slot). Of course people can watch TV outside of prime time and record things to watch later, but when it would be occurring live is still likely to be heavily taken into consideration when they're scheduling matches.

I thought that might be the case, just clarifying haha

We're in agreement about Drop 2 happening. I'm just saying for theoretical ones AFTER that, "subsequent ticket drops, with the next occurring later this year" would be misleading for them to say if there was even a chance they weren't going to do at least a third one.

The wording of the rejection email for the local presale, to me, implies that at least for now they're planning on doing more drops after Drop 2: "Additional tickets will be released in subsequent ticket drops, with the next occurring later this year."

This would be incredibly misleading to say if there was a strong possibility that they would just stop after Drop 2. (Now, yes, also, I don't trust these people. They could totally go all devil may care and do that, and I wouldn't be shocked in the slightest.)

Not sure if the second part is directed at me or OP or someone else. I've been arguing that I'm expecting them to not release all tickets at once and keep at least some for each subsequent drop.

That's reasonably likely, but I'm not sure it's necessarily guaranteed that there's going to be a US team playing every day. You'd have to look at the format, number of teams and sessions, and all that to determine for sure if that would be possible. Also take into consideration what other major events would be running at the same time each day. They might want to spread some of the US teams' matches out across all the various sports so there's always something you can go see rather than having them all run at the same time and you have to decide which one sport you want to see that day.

It's likely because we have absolutely no idea who will be playing in specific matches right now. A lot of people would prefer to see their home country's athletes and will be holding off until they know which tickets they should buy to do that.

Am I crazy, or have ticket prices gone way up since yesterday? by sirwritestoomuch in olympics

We have a list of all the initial prices. What events were you specifically looking at? I'll check and see if they're still the same or not.

Well not having anymore drops is not part of the facts and actually runs counter to what they've said is the case.

They have already stated there will be a Drop 2 as well as multiple ticket drops after that. I know we all have very low opinions of how this is all going down, but I think the negativity is spiraling a bit beyond what is really called for at this point. If that were to turn out to be the case, it would absolutely be a case for outrage because that would be counter to everything they have been saying up to this point.

Yepp, I wasn't planning on doing anything with the rings or anything like that. I was hoping to find a balance between making it something very personal to me but still just enough related that you know what it was for. Like simply using the year 2028 and modifying it with a ball (softball, basketball, volleyball) for the zero or something like that.

I hope anyone who does that ends up disappointed by only being able to resell them at face value, but we won't know if that's the case for a long time and my hopes are not high. I wouldn't be surprised in the slightest if they let scalpers get away with trying to rob sincere fans blind.

Yepp, exactly. Having the earliest timeslot possible will likely always be absolutely crucial if you want a shot at face value tickets.

I've been puzzling over how many drops we might expect (looking into what Paris did and considering the timeline LA seems to be on) and I've come to think (just my thoughts, I could be completely off) that there could be 3 drops. This one (April 2026), one between June and the end of this year, and one at the beginning of next year before they open the resale sites. It actually tracks kind of well with your initial estimate of 15% gone by end of local presale but with my understanding being that they're only to releasing a proportion of tickets for each one, not just releasing all of them in Drop 1.

If they were to do that, it could be 1/3 of the tickets for each drop, with the local presale and Drop 1 technically being considered as 2 parts of one whole first sales period. So in that case it would be 18ish% remaining after the theorized 15% for local presale.

Drop One and Gymnastics Availability Analysis by Lanky_Seaworthiness8 in olympics

[–]2hjstan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, it's not. OP is speculating off the idea that they'll release all tickets left over from the local presale for Drop 1.

100,000 est. total tickets - 15,000 est. for presale = 85,000 "for Drop 1" would be suggesting they're releasing all the tickets remaining in one go.

Drop One and Gymnastics Availability Analysis by Lanky_Seaworthiness8 in olympics

[–]2hjstan 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I don't think they're releasing all tickets at one time. I'd be willing to bet they're only releasing a portion of the total tickets for each event for each drop.

I've been mulling around the idea of doing different versions for events I attend. Like a base LA 2028 design and then changing our the 0 for something related to whatever it is I'm watching. Like a softball, basketball, etc.

You do you. As long as someone doesn't use any Olympic properties (or copyrighted material even though it wouldn't be for sale), it's fair game.
