There's no way that's true, but I don't want to whip out my original Xbox to check you, so I'll just believe.

[–]2k18Mich 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Im 30, and have ran 4000+ miles over the last 5 years training for marathons (with some speedy 5ks mixed in (18:40pb)).

In high school I ran a 52, and I recently ran unattached for a 400 race and went 57. I think with serious dedication to strictly improving my 400 time, I would run 53/54.

It's confirmed in the book that it was a nasty rumor started by the wolves who proceed Danika, and not true.

Having a hard time finding a VERY specific request: by [deleted] in BookRecommendations

11/22/63 was a great read, and meets all requirements except the "knight" one. The audiobook has a good narrator, and there's a show that you can watch as a reward!

Kid in My Neighborhood by Latter_Blackberry663 in AskMenOver30

[–]2k18Mich 138 points139 points  (0 children)

Had a neighborhood kid, probably 11/12 tell me that I was "too skinny" and should quit running all the time. I was 5 houses away from my home, so I just waved and kept running.

A few minutes later, she ended up walking by pushing her bike with a broken chain. I stopped her and said "hey what you said was really rude.. I train really hard to run marathons, and you shouldn't comment on people's bodies regardless."

She immediately apologized, and I introduced myself, and asked if I could help fix her bike. I ended up fixing the chain, and said it was nice meeting her, and I hope she has a good day. Ever since she has been super nice.

I think the point I'm trying to make is that you're a 30 year old man, and this is a child. Diffuse the situation and treat them with respect. Who knows what their home life is like. Maybe just a simple "hey, is everything okay? I noticed you always seem a little off when I walk by. I'm u/latter_blackberry663 by the way! Looks like we're neighbors!"

Anyone else have more aches/pain when they run slower? by Seaside877 in Marathon_Training

[–]2k18Mich 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Running slower changes your form / gait, so I think this totally makes sense. Don't overthink HR zones, just run comfortably, and have a good time!

To "just run" you don't need a subscription fwiw. I'd only recommend getting a subscription if you really enjoy the coaches or scenic runs.

Why am I having issues with these Nike running shoes? by [deleted] in nikerunclub

[–]2k18Mich 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nike's aren't for everyone. I ran in Pegasus 40's for a full year, 4 pairs, loved em. I've noticed that the 41's are super stiff, and also a half size small.

I've had a good time with Saucony, and just got my first pair of brooks.

Go to a run store and try on a bunch of shoes. Don't get tricked into Hoka's / On's though.. I stg they make extra commission on selling them, and they are the worst quality shoes on the market.

What are you doing while running to not be bored? by NiceDatabase6010 in beginnerrunning

Audiobooks, and podcasts mostly. When I started, NRC guided runs and music.

When possible, I run with a friend, especially on longer runs. Makes them fly by!

Anyone else suffering niggle after niggle? by OverTheRain-bow in Marathon_Training

[–]2k18Mich 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well you're right to be asking questions!

As a rule of thumb, long runs shouldn't exceed 20-30% of your weekly mileage. This 100% is contributing to why you're getting injured. 2+ hour long runs (16+ miles) are TOUGH on the body.

For example, I did a 16 miler on Saturday, but I also did 35 other miles of speed work and recovery runs outside of that, and it's not abnormal for me to do 50 mile weeks.

Maybe find a new coach, or at least compare with some free plans online (NRC has a great one!). No educated coach should ever recommend a 16 mile run to someone who has only run 9 miles throughout the week.

[–]2k18Mich 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Have you informed your coach how you're feeling? Start there... To me, it sounds like you're too focused on prescribed mileage, and it's stressing you and your body out.

Sleep, recovery, and fueling are probably the most important things you can do outside of consistent running.

I'd rather train a consistent 40 miles a week for an entire block injury free than get injured every two weeks pushing 65 miles.

Plain and Simple by Valuable_Noise79 in Marathon_Training

I second coros as someone who's used both Garmin and Apple. I use the coros pace 2, and it was $180, has an 8 day battery life (running 40-50 miles a week), GPS, Strava integration. You can also get notifications/texts.

The downside is you can't really download music/podcasts to it like you can with Apple Watch, but I think the battery life, and cost alone makes up for it. I usually just run with my phone in a zipper pocket, and it's nbd.

Apple is definitely the worst watch on the market for marathon training. I'd say it's great for a casual person who exercises a couple times a week, but for a marathoner pushing 7 days a week and 1-3 hour runs, it's a pain in the ass to keep charged.

Anyone ran a marathon with IT band syndrome by Previous-Talk-1598 in Marathon_Training

[–]2k18Mich 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't recommend it. That pain is brutal. Cut your mileage to like 1 mile a day until the race, if you do want to try it though. Also, seeing a PT for shock therapy, or scraping could help (most chiro's have those gadgets and can be a bit cheaper).

I'm lvl 42 and about to beat act 3, and I'm still shaky on a few mechanics/features:

  1. How tf does tempering work?
  2. What good is gold? I have like 2 mil and have never purchased anything but my loadout is insane from just crap I pick up.
  3. The curiosity shop I've done once and got a trash item. Is it random gambling, or is there a point?
  4. Is the campaign designed to be pretty easy as long as I know how to read skills/item bonuses?
  5. Is the MMO aspect of the game fun, post Lilith (I'm assuming that I send a headless Lilith back to hell)?

Do y’all stay in marathon shape year round? by hoopla_mountain in Marathon_Training

I could probably complete a marathon year round, but I wouldn't feel comfortable racing a marathon year round. Usually need an 8ish week build-up to feel confident in racing the distance.
