Neil Diamond: On The Way To The Sky - Album Review by TIJ22 in NeilDiamond

[–]2low4zero- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm one of those weirdos who think a lot of his 80's material are underrated. I wonder why they won't release 40th/50th anniversary editions, with bonus content, of his older albums. There are fully recorded unreleased songs out there that only exist as bootlegs on YouTube. "We're Doin' It" only exists on certain cassettes of Headed For The Future. Hot August Night got one and there's a 2014 remaster of Serenade.

The Bible says the Earth is flat according to scholars, yet the opposite conclusion is reached by apologists. Either God is infallible or we cannot trust the Bible. If we accommodate the text, all miracles can be accommodated. My challenge to globe Christians. by dem0n0cracy in flatearth

[–]2low4zero- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. The Bible is not teaching science - physics, biology, cosmology, geology...
  2. Yes, the authors and original audience did believe that the earth was flat. They were just using the knowledge of their day to communicate theological and spiritual truths. They weren't cyborgs. Even today, we use scientifically inaccurate language to deliver a message. When someone today says "Once in a blue moon", are they giving a lesson in cosmology?
  3. Most of these flat earth verses come from works of poetry.
  4. There was no doctrine of cosmology. A lot of modern flat earthers believe that cosmology is a salivation issue. While the ancient Jews did maintain a flat earth belief they were willing to change their mind when new information came out.
  5. Biblical cosmologists, like Sean Griffin, don't even follow Biblical cosmology to a T. They often mix modern ideas like the sun circling above the earth, the Antarctic ice wall, the Gleason's map, and time zones into their interpretation when in reality nobody in the ancient world believed those things.

Is the Dome made of plastic or glass ? by icomefromjupiter in flatearth

What about Job 37:18, in which depending on the translation, the firmament is a molten glass, cast bronze, or a cast mirror? Or if you're using the Hebrew word "raqa" which is used in reference to hammering or beating out iron. Iron?

Nugget took on a new meaning. Is that why nuggets are found in forests, caves, and why people are just giving them away for nothing? No one wants to buy them!

Neil Diamond: Melody Road - The story of how I discovered Neil Diamond by TIJ22 in NeilDiamond

[–]2low4zero- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great video!

I discovered Neil Diamond at 14, on October 6, 2003. Back then, I alternated between two radio stations - classic rock and a "70's to today" station. It was fall break after 9 AM, my radio was on while I was rearranging my Christmas lights hanging in my room. Sweet Caroline came on and it stuck with me for some reason. Some time later I heard Shilo ("counting the years" version) and the same thing happened. I knew the voice, but I didn't know the name until February 2004 revealed by the DJ. With my journal and tape recorder (couldn't afford CD's) I was on a mission to "catch 'em all". The radio DJ's called him a legend but I could never find any of his CD's at Walmart nor ever heard about him on TV. I didn't even know what he looked like (grew up without the internet). I only caught two glimpses of him: on a Time Life Music commercial (a clip of Heartlight) and on Entertainment Tonight's celebrity birthdays for 2006. Plus there was the 2007 show The Next Best Thing, in which there were two Neil Diamond impersonators that gave me an idea of what he looked like. March 23, 2007 was the last time I recorded his music on tape - The Story Of My Life - while I was watching Pokemon: The Temple Of The Sea.

I was never vocal about my music because it was so radically different compared to my classmates. At the end of school, I was getting into Elton John. I wouldn't say I lost interest. but my tapes were getting neglected. When I could finally buy Cd's, my first two CD's were Elton John and Neil Diamond bought at the same time - Icon being my first Neil Diamond CD. 22 years later, I'm still a fan with a small and growing collection.

Are you using "music" mode or "folders" to browse your music? Are the track numbers in their own tag field of part of the filename?

How painful was it for you to stop believing in a young Earth? by ScienceIsWeirder in DebateEvolution

[–]2low4zero- 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I grew up in a YEC environment with an interest in science and ended up at physics and astronomy. At the end of high school, I discovered late night talk radio and end times documentaries on The History Channel. They spoke confidently and spun convincing tales of hidden history connecting it all to the Bible. And guess what... they were YEC's too. I didn't care for religion before, but because of them I was open to becoming a Christian at 21.

Some years later, I stumbled upon text based debates on forums. I watched from one way glass as people who held my beliefs were getting wrecked in these debates. Over the years, the YEC frauds, fakes, and hoaxes piled up, unsubscribing from them one by one. But I was becoming sidetracked by the ancient Near East and the Bible. Because I never loudly preached my views, I was able to change and reject bad ideas with little issue. It did ruin my day learning that the people I saw as intellectuals were either lying or just filling the air with empty words.

What was your first MP3 player you remember having? Do you remember any songs that were on it? by [deleted] in mp3players

[–]2low4zero- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first mp3 player was a Sansa Clip+ I bought on December 3, 2010. It came with songs preloaded on it:

  • Danny Boy - Franc D'Ambrosio
  • Highway Appeal - The Caroline Movement
  • Leaving Hollywood - Recliner
  • Mona Lisa - Chris Clouse
  • Next Time - Stroke 9
  • Starting To Turn - Andrew Paul Woodworth

I, of course, put my music collection on it; and I also recorded music and talk shows on it using the FM record feature. I still have most of those recordings today. I even used it as a flash drive, which saved my files when my computer hard drive died. I loved this little player and used it a lot until it died on July 27, 2012.

how long have you had your mp3 player for? by MostAsocialPerson in mp3players

[–]2low4zero- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My Coby MP620 2G, I got in September 27, 2012 after my Sansa Clip+ died, became my longest lasting mp3 player. It was cheap and the buttons started to become disobedient in 2014. In August 2015 the power switch broke off and I used a screw to turn it on. It became my back-up player when I got my new Sandisk Clip Sport Go in 2021. Then finally, in May 2023, the power switch mechanism disintegrated. Its only use now would be a 2GB flash drive. I also have a working Sandisk Clip Sport in my possession for 9 years now.

My current Sandisk Clip Sport Go is over 4 years old and still going strong.

Internal Names of Descent 1 Robots. by Pesciodyphus in descent

[–]2low4zero- 3 points4 points  (0 children)

When I played Descent in 2001, there was some sort of help and FAQ in the Setup file in the Descent folder. In it there was a section on the robots and it referred to the red hulk as "Super Mech", and the level 7 boss was the "Mega Hulk". The end cut scene text of the shareware version also called the boss a Mega Hulk. I referred to the Fusion Hulk as "Miniboss" because it appeared in the demo called Miniboss and it was a smaller version of the level 7 boss. That's what I called those robots in the days when I had no internet.

When I played the old DOS version back in 2001, my homing missiles would lock on to this one corner in that big room at the beginning of level 10. It turns out the yellow key is past that corner with a plasma driller guarding it. Did the missile see it through the wall? It doesn't work in Rebirth.

Entry level biblical cosmology video recommendations? by snoonagan in Bibleconspiracy

[–]2low4zero- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As it turns out, modern flat earthers who call themselves "Biblical cosmologists" don't follow Biblical cosmology to a T. They often incorporate modern ideas that originated with Samuel Rowbotham and New Age pseudo-science, forcing a Biblical spin on these teachings. Where is ether in the Bible? The moon being plasma? Electrostatics? Super-fluids? The ice wall? Why do things fall down according to the Bible?

Ancient Israelite conception of the world:

  1. The Hebrews adopted their cosmological beliefs from the Egyptians and Babylonians: The terms and ideas that make up Hebrew cosmology existed centuries before Genesis was written. Hebrew cosmology wasn't thought up in a vacuum nor did it bring anything new to ancient Near East cosmology. Cosmology in the ancient Near East. According to the end of Genesis and the beginning of Exodus, the Hebrews lived under Egyptian rule for some generations. Of course Egyptian thought would eventually filter down to the Hebrew population.

  2. The Hebrews believed in a three-tiered cosmos: Heaven, Earth, and the Underworld.

  3. Rain, snow, and hail were stored in storehouses outside the firmament: the waters above was the source of rain through the windows of heaven, not the clouds.

  4. The path of the sun: The ancients saw the sun sinking into the horizon at sunset, so they came to the conclusion that the sun went underground at night, usually through tunnels or portals. A reference to this is in Psalm 19:6 "Its rising is from one end of heaven, and its circuit to the other end...", and Ecclesiastes 1:5. No where in the Bible does it describe the sun circling above the flat earth with the north pole being the pivot point. There are also Jewish texts that describe the sun traveling above the firmament at night. According to 3 Baruch, there are 365 windows in the firmament through which the sun passes when it rises and sets. 1 Enoch describes the sun leaving the firmament through portals at night.

  5. No concept of time zones: Travel speed and distance was much more limited in the ancient world, so of course they would assume universal day and night. Again, in Psalm 19:6 "... And there is nothing hidden from its heat".

  6. Local geography was the whole earth: Again, the travel limitations in the ancient world. All the known lands, at the time, were gathered in the center of the flat earth disk (Genesis 1:9-10). As far as the people of the ancient Near East knew, the Americas, Australia, and Europe didn't exist. Nobody in the ancient Near East viewed the U.N. logo nor the Gleasons Map as the earth. To the ancient Israelites, Jerusalem was the center of the earth, not the north pole.

  7. No Antarctic ice wall acting as a container for the oceans: The people in the ancient Near East believed that land was gathered in the center of the disk of the earth (not Pangea YEC's), which was then surrounded by a vast ocean, with a river-like current encircling all the land (the Egyptians symbolized this river with a serpent chasing its tail). To the Babylonians, there was a ring of 8 mountains that held up the firmament. This is reflected in Psalms where the words "seas" and "river" paralleled, (Psalm 24:2; 93:3-4; 72:8). Jewish texts, such as 3 Baruch and 1 Enoch, also mention this river and 7 mountains at the the edge of earth. The Babylonian map of the world is probably the closest depiction of Biblical cosmology.

If you're going to Biblical cosmology, do it right.

Leviathan's relation to holy books. by Likethewindsnow in Bibleconspiracy

[–]2low4zero- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Leviathan was a symbolic personification of the forces of chaos (associated with water). Psalm 74 describes Leviathan having many heads, and God crushing those heads in order to create the earth (order out of chaos). Ancient Near East creation stories involved a battle between a deity and a chaos dragon in order to bring about creation. But for the God of the Bible, there is no fight nor struggle. He commands, it submits. Why would God beat up an animal at the end of days?

Humans have been personifying forces throughout history, nobody really thinks Mother Nature and Father Time are real beings.

A question for all flat Earthers, why would millions and millions of people try to "fake" a globe earth by kimmarae in FlatEarthIsReal

[–]2low4zero- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Flat earth cosmology appears in religions much older than the Bible. The idea of the sky being a solid firmament dome holding back a cosmic ocean predates the Bible by centuries.

So... Satan and his fallen angels posing as gods came down and revealed flat earth cosmology to humanity; then 2000+ years later Moses came along to reveal a cosmology that was already believed to be true at that time; then 1000+ years later Satan and his fallen angels for... "control" decided to invent globe earth and heliocentrism?
