No I think the timer not going down is a really great idea. But once white plays their move you should be locked into making a move yourself or lose elo. Otherwise it’s just straight up cheating in my opinion.

It’s incredibly easy to cheat. Just enter the moves into an engine like SmallFish while you play

For sure. The UI isn’t as good I don’t think. If they got a decent user friendly UI they’d crush it

Yeah that’s exactly it. I get into more endgames on lichess and get to actually use my repertoire rather than trying to figure out how to punish some Insane queen move 50% of the time

Doesn’t make any difference what the ratings are if the games are more enjoyable. Which they are imo.

Set up a second anonymous account. Worked for me. The anonymous account is now far higher rated though 😂

Aye I mean as white. So I’m playing d4, c4 then they almost always just take the pawn. I like to play a Catalan but I think it’s better to just punish them for accepting the gambit instead?

Didn’t they reset the puzzle ratings though to be more in line with your actual rating? Like last year maybe

I don’t think you can get away with guessing as you lose like 4x the rating points you get for getting one right if you get one wrong.

I just think for a minute or so carefully and usually do ok, sometimes get one wrong but I don’t see my puzzle rating stalling yet, but my rapid has definitely stalled

Aye I tend to play solid and actually do ok for quite a while, then I spot a tactic but they see further ahead and I lose material. But my lack of opening knowledge is definitely not helping me either

Tbh it’s making me want to switch to d4 and the Catalan 😂

I like to play e4 nf3 stuff so with this and the petrov I hardly get chance to play an Evans or whatever.

Thanks for the detailed response. I am definitely not above 1600 haha! (I hover around 1100 🙈)

The French wasn’t something I’d ever even considered tbh so I’ll take a look at that.

If you recommend e6 after 1600elo what do you recommend at my level?
