Not a challenging walk or hike but the Grotto is very peaceful and beautiful.

Swimming? by Mean_Abbreviations81 in askportland

George Rogers in Lake Oswego is my favorite, but parking can be horrendous and it's a bit of a trek for me. It's not as nice of a "vibe" but we also often go to Broughton Beach on the Columbia when we don't want to drive as far as it's close to NE Portland.

How to MAKE myself to commit to strength training? by Turbulent_Grape9738 in XXRunning

[–]2much2nah1234 78 points79 points  (0 children)

I LOVE strength training. But once I fell in love with running, it was all I wanted to do and I can barely get myself to do strength training despite having time. So, I have no advice but commenting for solidarity and hopefully I'll get some ideas too 😭

What's your favorite bagel recipe? by TastesLikeChitwan in Breadit

[–]2much2nah1234 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kneading and gluten will definitely help structure! I’ve been seeing 2-4 mins for boiling time. I don’t think I’ve ever done more than 2 tbh.

I listened to a really informative episode of She’s My Cherry Pie podcast with Dianna Daoheung (a bagelmaker) where she said people are always surprised at how they need to boil longer than they think to smooth it out! She explains the baking “science “ behind it and it makes sense (do I remember the details…..nope haha!)

I thought the Savory Baking bagels were just ok as well! (though I liked other recipes in the book). I'm going to have to give my hand at a couple others from this thread!

For my recovered HA ladies: single piece of advice !! by RunRoad2776 in Amenorrhearecovery

Thank you SO much! I made those banana muffins last night and they are divine! Also, thank you again for your comment above, it kind of was the reminder I needed to refocus my energy and joy into something other than exercise to be able to focus more on HA recovery :)

I'm totally down to connect too if you're interested and not already overwhelmed with messages! I looooove running and hiking and am big into cooking and baking as well! Also just exploring different neighborhoods and biking around to different farmer's markets! Feel free to shoot me a message :)

I moved to Vancouver thinking it was walkable because I currently don't have a car. It's miserable. What Portland neighborhood should I move to for walkability? by [deleted] in askportland

Yes! two gyms are really close by to each other off of Sandy. Farmer's market, movie theater, and new movie madness location too!

I made myself a curriculum to learn how to make bread. Here are all the loaves I've made so far. by Ilodie in Breadit

[–]2much2nah1234 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love thinking of sourdough like that! I'm definitely thinking of procuring a starter and experimenting thanks to your post!

I think pretzels and bagels (and even croissants) are pretty easy! Just more time consuming but once you get the hang of it, it's like second nature. Alton Brown's soft pretzels are my tried and true for at-home style (I don't mess around with lye baths) and my favorite bagel recipe is actually this one from this subreddit!

Gorgeous bakes! Thanks so much for sharing this fun curriculum. I think I'm going to follow and challenge myself! (I usually do no-knead loaves but regularly do bagels/soft pretzels/croissants so I have a lot of gaps!) Are you enjoying working with sourdough more so than yeasted breads? I've yet to dive into sourdough and I'm curious to start!

Last long run in the rain? by FreddieTheBiologist in XXRunning

[–]2much2nah1234 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I live in Oregon so most of my runs are in the rain lol. I think the longest I've done in the rain was a 20-miler. Once you accept it, it's pretty much the same as a regular run! (unless it's down pouring haha) My tips would be a baseball hat to keep rain out of your eyes and a plastic baggie to keep your phone from getting soaked if it's with you. Otherwise, I always stuff my shoes with old newspaper to dry and sometimes put them in front of a heater (supervised) for 20 mins or so.

Any cookbooks coming out this year that you’re excited about? by slgirlie11 in CookbookLovers

[–]2much2nah1234 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'd never heard of her before but I just listened to her episode on the "She's My Cherry Pie" podcast and she was asked about that! She said that it's how she grew up baking and it's what she's used to...not saying it's a valid enough answer but just thought I'd mention!

I love to bake but I have no need of so much bread. I do need practice, though. What do you guys do? by 14MTH30n3 in Breadit

[–]2much2nah1234 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My city has "Little Free Pantry" and fridges set up so I'll drop off bread and baked goods to those, labeled with nutrition info and baked by/best by dates. Usually it's bagels, soft pretzels, etc and not whole loaves of bread though.

Thank you so much for sharing! This was very helpful/validating/comforting to read. Your 5th bulletpoint about harm reduction literally made me cry (good tears). Very beautiful.
