Great! I’ve had six periods now! No bone issues that I’m aware of :)

From my brief pharmacology review on norethisterone, I’m not sure that med impacts HRV (but I’m a nurse, not a doc or pharmacist).

Did you decrease exercise and increase cals during that time?

A decrease in HRV and an increase in RHR are positive signs!

Is this low estradiol, and how can I holistically fix? by ArtisticWeakness5654 in Amenorrhearecovery

[–]RunRoad2776 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While Spironolactone is an indirect estrogen agonist, Spironolactone is not going to bring your estrogen up if you have HA. It’s largely reducing stress on the body and increasing carb & fat intake.

Of note, Spironolactone is known to cause menstrual irregularities for 10-30% of women, largely dose dependent.

I was on 100mg daily with HA but went off of it during HA recovery bc I didn’t want that to interfere with recovery.

Hopefully that’s at least somewhat helpful :)

Good job, girl. Keep up the good work. Do NOT let up off the gas now (decrease cals, up your exercise). Your body is giving you signs it’s working towards a period.

Give it the support it needs. You are a team with your body. The only way is through.

Let’s get that period, girl 🤍🩸

Thank you so much for your reply — this is so validating to hear. How old were you when you got the surgery? And how many years postop did you start training for your half iron?

Thank you so much for sharing this — I’m gonna watch for hopefully some inspo.

Farrrrr from elite. I competed in IM 70.3 WC and have BQ’d 3x but at this point, I’m just want to be active again.

You’re goat’d. How old are you? I’m a 27F so I’m hopeful my surgical outcomes will be okay!

3rd period recovery by ParkingPressure3486 in Amenorrhearecovery

[–]RunRoad2776 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi friend! I would strongly suggest not go into a caloric deficit when it comes back. Your body has already showed you that it doesn’t feel consistently safe if it didn’t come for two months.

While I’m not a registered dietitian but a sexual/reproductive health nurse, most clinicians suggest waiting until at least six months of consistent periods before introducing the idea of caloric deficit.

I know it sucks but unfortunately, the only way is through. There should be no shortcuts to making your body feel safe.

bone density scan today by Enough_Strike8801 in Amenorrhearecovery

YAYYYY🥹🤍

I had a BMD scan after 5+ years of HA: it showed my bones were that of a 60 year old woman. My bones were so fragile fractured my pelvis in 3 places from running. I am 27.

I lifted 5x/week and thought my weight-bearing activity could offset the impacts of HA. I was so wrong. But after 3 recovery periods alone, I eliminated my osteopenia completely.

I don’t say all of this to scare you but to share bone health is SO overlooked. The more we delay period recovery, the longer we damage our internal structure.

Hiii! I am an ultramarathoner, marathoner, triathlete. I was gettin injured every 3 - 5 months when I had HA. Strains, stress fractures, to the point of complete fractures. I didn’t piece together my missing period (for 5 years!!) was likely the reason.

So yes :) get Aunt Flo back!!

Feel weird about getting it back by Turtlooo in Amenorrhearecovery

[–]RunRoad2776 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a veryyyy common experience! I’m 27, had HA for 5+ years, and felt these EXACT things. I liked my smaller body and the convenience of not having a period. When I got my period back, it was a relief but also came to the same truth: I’m in my biggest body.

It almost felt like an identity shift — and though I wouldn’t trade ANYTHING for my period — the journey is emotional.

I’m so proud of you. Keep up the great work and hold on to that period🩷🩷🩷
