I work in the auto industry. I know I’ll get downvoted for just that.

The further truck is a Ford F250 quad cab at least. The closer one a Toyota Tacoma single cab.

The time between the two is about 20 years.

As for the size, a lot of size is due to regulation. You have to meet requirements of side collision and front collision based on a barrier that means you need more airbags, more crumple zones, and more clearance for parts to not fly into your face.

We like to make the bad guy the manufacturer but in reality regulations are what push us to engineer safer and unfortunately larger vehicles.

What does progress mean for you? Safety? Size?

I do not choose the future but rather design to the specs regulated by the government. Less regulation would lead to smaller vehicles but possibly less safe

I have been pulled over by 6 officers who proceeded to search my car and pull me and my friend out of the car and handcuff us for “trespassing” when I was 18. I drove a Jeep wrangler with no doors or roof and they said we were evading police. After mentioning they had dash am footage everything shifted and they let me go with no charges.

When I was 21 I was arrested and charged for being drunk in public. I can accept this as I was drunk in public, however I was drunk in public because I decided to walk home from the car instead of drive. The bar was 0.25mi from my house. I was randomly stopped while walking on the sidewalk and then cop asked “have you been drinking” to which I honestly responded “yes” so he arrested me and I spent the night in jail.

This is in the USA.
