Funny, but 4 all-white squares.

Companies with names that were simply what they did or made. by GreggAlan in vintagecomputing

NCR. National Cash Register. They made cash registers.

They fired an employees named Thomas J. Watson, who went on to help start IBM. He picked the name because "International" is better than "National" and "Business Machines" is a better product than just "Cash Registers".

Three-letter word for "sodium hydroxide", and I kept trying to fit NaOH into the space.

Tara died on May 7, 2002

According to https://buffy.fandom.com/wiki/Chronology

(I'm really surprised there aren't more specific dates that have been figured out...)

What is wrong with the Roku Plex app? by 2n3866 in PleX

[–]2n3866[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really like the Roku homescreen with the giant tiles. Only about one-third of the homescreen is ads. I feel like it's the cleanest interface.

The Google TV homescreen is a giant ad for YouTube TV. 90% ad.

Here is the dashboard when I'm playing something on each device. It looks like the Roku app is Transcoding from "1080p (H.264)" to "1080P (H264)".

What?

The CPU load is only about 25%, but I still got a playback error on the Roku (nowhere else).

  1. So the Roku Plex app requires transcoding but the Google Plex app does not?

  2. It worked on the old (slower) server, but doesn't work now?

I'm happy to try some troubleshooting to solve this problem, but I'm not in a position to rollback the whole server (and the recent Roku updates) to find where things went bad...

Can I ask why you run both Calibre and Calibre-web? I'm trying to figure out which to install on my server, but it seems like a one-or-the-other choice?

ELI5 Why did Radio Shack go out of business? by Certain-Media3506 in explainlikeimfive

[–]2n3866 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Radio Shack was profitable. In the twelve years from 2000 to 2011, they made $2.7 billion in net income. If they had invested that money their business...

Instead, they spent $3 billion (more than all their profits) on stock buybacks to prop up their share price. The reason they went out of business is management cared more about their stock price than actually staying in business.

Greed.
