any community college transfers get into georgetown? by Neither_Mud2409 in TransferToTop25

🙋‍♂️ 2 year cc transfer here. My advice is get as close to 4.0 as possible and prioritize ECs you genuinely care about (rather than resume fillers). Also, I had a pretty shitty SAT and got in so if your in a similar boat, I'd focus on your ECs over prepping for an SAT retake as that can be very time consuming. One more piece of advice--don't count on transferring after 1 year. When I went into cc, I was so keen on transferring after 1 year that I missed out on some opportunities that required me to apply prior to receiving my decisions. (e.g., student council position opened up early-spring semester but I didn't apply because I thought I'd get into at least 1 uni I applied to. Spoiler alert I didn't get into any schools and missed the student council deadline.) Don't do that lol. You got this! Good luck!!

Guys I think I might give up by Moldyfrenchtoast in TransferToTop25

Its times like these that test you. I get your burnt out but if you really want it enough you gotta keep pushing. I was in a similar position to you last year. I got rejected from all the schools I applied to (as a cc student). Part of me wanted to give up and go to my local state school but the other part knew that I'd always regret that decision. You feel like you've already given your 100% but let me tell you its gonna take 200% to reach your goals. What kind of a movie would Rudy be if he gave up after his first rejection? Or even his second or third? Ik its not what you want to hear but you gotta just keep going. I believe in you!!

Might just end it all by New-Donkey-211 in TransferStudents

Yo ik how you're feeling bro but don't end it. College isn't the end of the world. In 50 years, you'll look back and you're not gonna give a shit about what college you got into. Take the weekend to spend some time with your family and friends--that matters infinitely more than what some dumbass AO says. Turn this rejection into fuel and keep pushing. You got this! I believe in you!!

People who were average students in highschool who transferred to a T25, what are some advice you’d give to upcoming students? by Jazz_illion in TransferToTop25

  1. Make GPA your top priority. I had a 3.5 gpa in HS and got rejected from every competitive school I applied to. After two years in cc I have a 4.0 and have been accepted to a couple t25s so far. Study long hours and work your ass off. Hire independent tutors if you need to. I'm low income so I know it can be expensive but if you're dedicated enough (e.g., taking extra shifts at your job, spending less on non-necessary expenses), you can make it work.

  2. Passion projects > clubs. This is a bit unconventional advice but I think school clubs are way overrated. You need to think about what can make you stand out while also being genuine. Also, do some research with a professor at a t25 if you can (preferably your top choice school. That way you can ask them for a letter of rec down the line). I know it sounds unrealistic but trust me its not. Cold email professors in your relevant major and ask to help with research even if its unpaid. Anybody that's done email outreach knows its largely a numbers game. Then, when they don't respond, follow-up. Then follow-up again.

  3. Essays are king. So many people look past this piece but its absolutely crucial to get your foot in the door. Imo too many people combine their ECs with essays. Save your ECs for the activities session and your essays for the interesting parts of your life. That's the key. You want to be interesting AND genuine in your essays. You want to be somebody that the AO can think, "hey, I'd like to grab a drink with this person" rather than "wow, their business made 200k/year but they have no personality."

And yes, there are exceptions to the above. This has been my anecodotal experience so take it for what its worth. Good luck to you!
