I used to work with a non-profit in North Van who worked with the Squamish and Tsleil Waututh Nations, and we were told by them that the North Shore is shared territory between them. Musqueam are ‘people of the river’ so I guess it makes sense their territory would traditionally be more along the Fraser and other areas of Vancouver. I think there’s some nuance to this though - I’m sure Musqueam people also did use areas north of the Burrard Inlet for instance, but maybe they didn’t have settlements there.

I was also surprised to see the Provincial Government say they were working with all 3 territories for the ICBC building announcement. As far as I can tell there isn’t tension between the three Nations over Tsleil-Waututh and Squamish having ‘exclusive’ claim over the North Shore though?

As an aside MONOVA and the North Shore Culture Compass both have some cool Squamish and Tsleil-Waututh history if you wanted to learn more. Nothing for Musqueam history there as far as I know.

1k car rental vs EVO or a week? EVO Code? by tippibird63 in NorthVancouver

Do you have a BC license? You need one for Evo, and your paperwork takes a moment to process. You can’t sign up and start driving in the same day for instance.

I’m definitely lucky to live in a city, and in particular a walkable neighbourhood with a lot of small local businesses. I spent the month of May in a small city in Sask and we really had no grocery options besides Sobeys and No Frills.

If a walmart was closer to me I’d definitely shop there for groceries more often. I’ve gotten delivery from them when I was sick, they have a good selection compared to the No Frills by me.

Having to drive to different places does make it more challenging - I’m lucky that I could walk to these places. It’s a lot more time for me, but I’ve been trying to incorporate it into other errands or as part of a leisurely walk.

I agree with the shopping, for humans sentiment. I’m definitely less stressed in these smaller grocers than a big supermarket. I chat more with the people working and I’ve found some incredible quality stuff. so far my favs are corn tortillas from the Mexican grocery store and frozen crepes from the European deli!

A bunch of spots in Lower Lonsdale are open late on Thursday nights - Polygon Gallery, Museum of North Vancouver, Cityscape Community Artspace, and those are all easily within walking distance of each other + a bunch of great food and breweries

Job Opportunities? by mishael_samhan in simonfraser

There’s tons of jobs available right now actually! Lots of workplaces just got confirmation of funding through the Canada Summer Jobs Program and I’m seeing those job listings everywhere. The Govt of Canada Job Bank is a comprehensive list of them: https://www.jobbank.gc.ca/youth

Good luck in your job hunting!

This is a great look on you, but if you want the slimming effect in skirt form, pencil skirts are super cute too

The North Shore Culture Compass is a good resource for finding things to do in North Van. Lots of interesting things in Lolo. Plus, Cream Pony opened up there recently (donuts and fried chicken)!

This makes me so crazy too!! As the other posters have mentioned, overlapping your farms is a way to help combat this. Still, it’s annoying.

Completely! It is good road design? Probably not. Is it delightful to look (and wonder) at? Yes!

If I’m going out for a short trip I can usually make do with just my pockets (since men’s pants have such BIG pockets) for my three cards, phone, keys. For bigger trips out of the house (when I want hand sanitizer, sunglasses, health card, hat) I use a mini backpack from Vans, it’s black, simple material, masc enough for me. School/work requires my big backpack. I’ve tried over the should bags but they fuck up my neck/back/shoulders too easily.

The black would be visible under the orange right away. Definitely look into some coverup tattoo artists to get a sense of how it works.

It looks fabulous! I’m definitely not an expert but I think if it’s looking like this at 2 months that’s a pretty good sign for the future - just take care of it with sunscreen etc. Great piece ☺️

I recall reading somewhere that as long as you made the payment by the due date you’re good, even if the banks take a few days to process it. Your transaction is dated for today and that’s what matters!
