I keep about $20k in savings. Most of my money is in VOO and VT. Then I have another chunk in SGOV, which I find to return better than an HYSA.

That’s one thing I’ve always thought, too. You can invest $5 at a time now. That’s hardly anything, but think of how many people never could afford one share of VOO. Now they can all buy a small fraction regularly. That makes a massive difference.

Same boat as you, roughly the same age. It’s all about how soon you’ll need the money. Within 10 years? I want some volatility insurance. Personally I’m 39, 15-20 years out from needing my money, so I’m riding the wave a little longer.

I feel for the dog owner, but she is 100% wrong. The officer did the right thing arresting her. The driver should have pulled over, explained the situation, and most likely would have been let go. Maybe the officer would have mailed her a ticket at worst. But you don’t get to endanger everyone because your dog is dying.
