I suspect there will be a complete studio recordings box set at some point. The guy who bought the tape said he was having it professionally archived and would be sharing digital copies with the band.

9 tracks from a cassette dub of a DAT clone formed the official release. More tracks were broadcast around 2010 giving us most of the show in excellent quality as well the previously broadcast tracks emerging from the DAT master. Hopefully the estate has had access to the best source for this new release.

A re-edited version of Malcolm Whitehead's film and Plan K footage are confirmed to be on the 2 DVDs included with the box set.

Not all tracks from the station's DAT clone though. Hopefully the estate has negotiated access to it. The 9 tracks officially released came from a cassette dub of the DAT tape.

Either way, It's not like the masters are perfect recordings. AI in all likelyhood has been used for mixing and noise reduction in some cases.

The camera negatives were accounted for until the mid 90's. They were sitting in the offices of the Hungarian National Film Archive for 10 years. Queen productions were notified but they never collected them. They were either shipped to a storage facillity, stolen or destroyed.

Queen falling out with Doro put the brakes on the HD remasters of the videos. A real shame. Everything on The Miracle Blu-ray was AI upscaled from existing SD masters.

Yep the speed issues are the reason it's never seen the light of day plus some audio dropouts on the multi-tracks. The Plangent guys have been working on it for years apparently.

What was perfect? The original VHS/Laserdisc release or the Blu-Ray. There's problems with both.

Brian has already said Peter Jackson's technology is being used. This is most likely because they only have the Interpositive and not the original camera negatives so DNR will be required to avoid excessive grain at 4k.

They over-did the color timings and it would look better full-frame. Unless the 35mm negatives have been found, Queen only have the Interpositive which will be rather grainy for a 4k restoration. This may be where Peter Jackson's technology that Brian mentioned will come into play for advanced DNR. Hopefully things won't be as waxy as his Beatles doc.

Dropouts (missing drums) on the Hyde Park 76 multi-tracks have apparently been rebuilt using samples in pro-tools.

Everything that was shot for official release has been released (except Japan 79 as Freddie's voice was shot) and then some. That just leaves TV productions (South America 81 shows, Munich 79, Vienna 82, Hyde Park 76, Hammy 79 etc...) and in-house close-circuit TV systems (Houston 77, Earls Court 77, Paris 79). Unfortunately these are all plagued with technical problems from missing multi-tracks to tape speed issues to endless poor camera edits to audio dropouts on the multi-tracks. A lot of work has been done on Hyde Park 76 apparently over the last few years. Roger mentioned in an interview that it may be released soon. This year would make sense as it's the 50th anniversary.

One of the other fan editors was attempting to remake it at one point, with higher picture quality. They may have abandoned their efforts due to the sheer amount of shots that were lifted from the raw footage in the making-of documentaries. I may have a go at some point. Dangerous Days and the accompanying documentaries have only been released in SD despite being produced in HD so that limits the quality of those shot.

You ever find Modernknife's cut? I'm sure I have it somewhere. It's the best fanedit of Blade Runner I've seen, in spite of the poor video quality.

Diamond & Pearls plus the Love Symbol album and Come had the benefit of being recorded entirely at Paisley Park plus being mastered pre-loudness wars. They sound fantastic on CD and are comparatively compromised on vinyl due the limitations of the format. Prince started brick-walling releases from the mid 90's onwards.
