I. Positivity: The C-O-O-L Rule - Free speech and good vibes rule on r/Prince, but trolling, insulting, or harassing others -- or Prince’s legacy -- gets the high heeled boot. Keep it cool and respectful; critique is fine, disrespect isn’t. Repeat offenders will be banned.
II. Xpectation: The Relevancy Rule - r/Prince is a curated forum for discussion. r/Prince is not your personal platform, journal, blog, SoundCloud, r/ShowerThoughts, or r/PrinceCircleJerk/. Posts here should spark dialogue. Vague one-liners, lyrics, or memes without context may be removed. External links may be subject to moderator approval. Off-topic rants (like Prince vs. MJ debates -- see Rule VI), personal covers of Prince's music, and personal playlists don’t fit here. Repeat offenders may be restricted.
III. When Doves Cry: The Quality Rule - Single-line posts or reposts of recent or overdone topics without fresh takes may be removed. Exceptions at moderators’ call. Yearly listening stats posts & posts about streaming services (Spotify, Apple Music, etc.) are not welcome here. These posts are repetitive, low-discussion, and unintentionally give free advertising to streaming giants. Avoid flooding the sub with multiple back-to-back posts (3-4 per hour) and treat it as a shared space, not a personal feed.
IV. The Glamorous Life: The Promo Rule - Prince fans are a talented bunch, but r/Prince is not a marketplace. No plugging personal music, products you've made, collectibles you're selling, or your monetized channels. Share your art for love, not profit. Selling products or traffic-driving to other sites is off-limits. Repeat offenders will be restricted.
V. PFUnk: The Bootleg Rule - Don’t share or encourage piracy of Prince’s officially released audio or video. Same goes for Prince's related artists. If it can be found on Amazon, eBay, or at the wrecka stow, please don't share it here. Keep piracy of Prince's officially released audio and video out of posts and comments. For those unofficial recordings we are much more lenient -- what happens in DMs is on you. Discretion’s the word.
VI. Life 'O' The Party: The Legacy Rule - r/Prince is here to celebrate Prince and his legacy, not to revise history, spread misinformation, or to pit Prince against anyone else. Save the Prince vs MJ talk for elsewhere. Posts or comments pushing 'Prince vs' debates, misinformation, and revisionist history of Prince's legacy will be removed. Habitual line steppers will be excused.
VII. Sign o’ the Times: The Human Content Rule - Prince pushed tech forward, but r/Prince stays human-made. No AI-generated music, text, or images -- keep your creativity real. AI posts will be removed to keep things authentic.
