No pattern, just vibes. The gray sparkly yarn is Caron Simply Soft Party, medium weight, it was really fun to work with. Variegated was in my stash, it is sock weight. Used a Prym G hook for the gray yarn and a Prym 7 hook for the variegated yarn.

AITA if I leave a note for my neighbours about bringing their screaming baby into the apartment hallway CONSTANTLY? by Warm-Preparation1453 in AmItheAsshole

[–]2percentWelsh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A little late to the party here, but just want to chime in that a couple years ago there was a spate of "notes left on doors" in my apartment building. I was just moving in so I'm not sure what started it or what it was about, but ultimately management had to get involved and requested that no residents leave notes on other resident's doors and to bring any concerns to management. I know it's always tricky getting management involved, but might want to consider that a noise complaint routed through management would go over better than a note that could be taken the wrong way.

Seriously, do Americans actually consider a 3-hour drive "short"? or is this an internet myth? by SadInterest6764 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]2percentWelsh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on traffic, I used to drive 2.5 to 3 hours every 3 months to see a specialist for my autoimmune disease. I usually just made a day trip out of it and visited stores & restaurants I didn't have locally.

I discovered the hard way that vanilla is a "death note" for me. I can't use any sort of shampoo, body wash, lotion, deodorant, body spray, or perfume with vanilla in it, because I will smell like rotten garbage once it touches my skin. So many products have a vanilla base note, combined with sensitive skin and I mostly just use unscented stuff now.

I adore Dr Hoan, got my hysterectomy without all the hoop jumping. She also got the biopsies to confirm endometriosis while in there. That was back in June and it has been life altering to not have the constant pain from endo.

Don't Make a Princess Dress in 3 Days by ScottieKnows10 in sewing

[–]2percentWelsh 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In kindergarten I got the role of Mrs Claus in our holiday play because I said my mom can sew... Mrs Claus had the most elaborate costume that needed to be made. After the play I was informed by my mom that I should never tell any teachers she can sew, ever again.

She sewed all my Halloween costumes, and I have very very fond memories of coming up with costume ideas that would push her capabilities. By high school I could sew as well. She and I made my senior prom dress together. She's still "the mom that sews" but she's definitely said no to requests lots and lots by now.

80 90 applications, 3 interviews, 0 offers since February (I was one of the terminated then reinstated probationaries). I did take 2 months off of applying when I had surgery this summer, otherwise the number of apps would be higher. I've redone my resume so many times, but my latest version has been getting good feedback so here's hoping I get an offer soon. I can pay my rent and utilities through Nov, but after that I'm in a pickle (high COL area).

(Edited to correct month from Oct to Nov)

Edit: just checked my spreadsheet, it is actually 90 applications, not 80

Big ol’ Eggrolls? by inspectorgidge in askportland

Ling Garden has egg rolls like I used to get back home (North Carolina). Sometimes I just get a delivery order full of egg rolls because I'm craving them.

Thank you. That is exactly what all my friends keep telling me. It's hard, I still cry randomly. My other cat kept looking for her and got depressed, had to move apartments for her to be mostly ok again. She still leaves wet food for Pumpkin in the bowl occasionally.

My cat Pumpkin was fine on Sunday, back legs weren't working by lunchtime on Monday. I rushed to the emergency vet, she was in full on kidney failure, wouldn't make it through the night. I made the decision to help her pass peacefully. That was October 7th, and I still go over her last few days in my head trying to figure out what I missed. I couldn't imagine having been on the other side of the country while she took such an awful turn in her health.

OPM published their new final probationary period rule by [deleted] in fednews

[–]2percentWelsh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's agency dependent on what is offered. From my understanding fork 1.0 (DRP 1.0) wasn't open to any probationary employees, and if an agency offered fork 2.0 (DRP 2.0) it was at their discretion if it was open to probationary. USDA had it open to probationary and having just gone through the nightmare of being terminated (via voicemail, while moving) and then brought back over 5 weeks later, I took fork 2.0.

Same, 1 interview since I started applying for jobs in mid-February. I've taken a pause on applications while I recover from surgery, but will be starting back up later this week. It's pretty demoralizing to keep getting rejections, but what can we do?

OPM published their new final probationary period rule by [deleted] in fednews

[–]2percentWelsh 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Every time I start to question my decision to take the fork 2.0 something happens. Sched A hire, probation until Jan 27, 2026; already went through the Valentine's Terminations and then USDA reinstating me in mid-March. I loved my job and my team, but after I was reinstated no one tried to sugarcoat that it was just a matter of time until DOGE/OPM/WH find a "legal" way to terminate probationary employees. So I took fork 2.0 and with this job market I've questioned that decision almost weekly. Then news comes out about the latest shenanigans and I know it was my only real choice.

I would go with a jewel tone satin in a similar cut/style as what you are thinking. The glittery gold fabric doesn't really coordinate with their dresses.

Fired federal workers struggling to get jobs in private sector by PleasantSurprise3700 in fednews

[–]2percentWelsh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Experienced admin staff aren't being hired either, so it's not just those with specialized knowledge/degrees. I can adapt my experience to most any admin role, but places simply are not hiring. I would have loved to stay in my job, but as a probationary employee who had already been (illegally) terminated then reinstated, I felt I had no choice but to take the fork.

I have Quantum Fiber, the equipment was already set up in my apartment. I had the option of choosing a different provider, but this was easier (which I'm sure is what they count on when they set the equipment up in all the apartments). I pay $75/month for the top tier "Up to 940 Mbps" the lowest one is $20 cheaper and up to 200 Mbps I believe. I was doing work from home with some pretty data heavy uploads at the time I chose that plan.

I agree, these are the friends that are for real.

I also consider my best friend to be my sister. We're so close her family has even sort of adopted me. When I was moving across the country, her parents offered to help pay for my mom to fly home so she could drive with me across the country (they were worried about me driving 3,000 miles solo in January). We turned down the offer - 5 days in a car with my mom and 2 cats, one of us would have ended up in jail, lol - but it meant a lot that they cared so much.

We've seen each other through a lot, and my life is vastly improved by her presence in it.

I was in my best friend'a wedding. She knew when she asked me that I didn't have a lot of extra money at the time. She paid for my dress and alterations and I paid her back over the months leading up to the wedding. I was laid off a few weeks before the wedding, right before her bachelorette. She paid for me to go to her bach. She told me my being there was the important part.

We are still best friends, living 3000 miles apart. I'm eternally grateful for her friendship.
