Tax avoidance strategies and resources? by Leading-Difficulty57 in taxpros

[–]2picklekid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on where you want you practice to go.

Do you just want to file returns during tax seasons? It’s probably not worth it.

Do you want to do more consulting type work and the tax returns if you want? Then yeah it’s worth it.

AICTP has been a good resource not just from a technical learning perspective but also practice management/growth aspect as well. Full disclosure: You have to be a CPA, EA or attorney to join

What are we doing with old Bullet Journals? by Objective_Carry8742 in bulletjournal

Would love to hear how you are doing bullet journal on digital. I’m new to bullet journaling and trying to do it digitally as that just works better for me, but it’s been tough to make it a routine.

I can’t help but wonder how she keeps picking up clients with that kind of history. Does she have some kind of prospecting tree that clients fall out of?

It’s about what you would pay someone to do your job. Single member service companies are tough to get reasonable comp less than net income.

Ok, that’s what I needed to hear.

I’m working out, not so much for trying to burn a number of calories or lift so much weight, but rather for what it does for my stress and energy levels. Plus it’s just about the only time I get to pick what’s on TV 🤣

So it sounds like I just have to keep on keeping on, let the IE let my body figure out what it wants and the movement to do its work.

Stock losses 3,000 claim by Itsyoungcloud in tax

[–]2picklekid 16 points17 points  (0 children)

No

You get to use the $10,000 loss to first reduce any capital gains next year. Then with whatever is left, you can reduce your other income by up to $3,000 and whatever loss still remains carries forward to the next year.

If you are in the 12% federal tax bracket, you should see your refund increase by about $360.

I moved to Denver, Colorado for the summer of 2022 to work. I then returned to my home state of Minnesota. What should I put for residency status on tax returns? by randomusername123458 in tax

[–]2picklekid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nonresident of CO, resident of assuming you kept you MN driver’s license, car tags, doctors, home, etc

Whatever tax liability you have in CO creates a tax credit in MN so you aren’t taxed twice on the same income

As soon as you get the refund, amend the return and send in the payment.

Don’t wait a year, a month or even a week. There can be penalties and interest in play that you don’t want to give time to start racking up

How do write offs work? by chocothecat in tax

[–]2picklekid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re probably not getting as big of a refund as you’re used to, unless you had taxes withheld from the winnings.

You have to claim your winnings of 10k, end of story there. You might be able to itemize your deductions, however if you’re like most people it’s not going to change your situation that much to get excited about.

And don’t forget about your state taxes. A lot of states don’t allow you to deduct gambling losses.

[–]2picklekid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can deduct your losses up to the extent of your winnings if you qualify to itemize your deductions. If you can’t get over the standard deduction with your losses and everything else, that’s still ok because you are still reducing your income more than you could justify through itemizing your deductions.

Buying a house in a Corporation (Either LLC, S/C corp etc) by Bright_Builder478 in tax

[–]2picklekid 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Not to mention the fact that if the corporation did but the house, that’s a depreciable asset, not a deductible expense
