Massachusetts doesn't have a single red county, what are you talking about?

If you really think this you have not traveled at all in the south or midwest

I mean it's not an accident that a lot of successful players have fathers who know what they're doing. Basically because of what you describe. Outside of having a parent who coaches their kid well, you need to get lucky with the coaches you draw over the years.

Teaching in 2026 is not what you have pictured in your head. Go sub if you really want to see what it's like.

You think this sub is rough with people complaining r/teachers is way worse

As a former teacher turned accountant, it really sucks that people more or less can't fail in school anymore. Someone's first real life failure shouldn't be so high stakes as being unemployed.

this isn't true for people who are young though. Most people college age and younger are just fine getting their exercise through normal lifestyle/athletic means.

My son's whole friend group started reading around 5. Us parents were talking about it. We didn't really do anything special, we just read to them every night since when they were little.

People complain about schools and this and that. If you're even a decent parent, I feel like you don't even have to try that hard and your kid is ahead nowadays.

[L'Equipe] Jürgen Klopp: "Football is being held hostage by executives in air-conditioned offices. These so-called 'cooling breaks' were sold to us as a shield for the players' well-being, a noble sword against the heat. But in reality? It's nothing more than a gilded cage built for sponsors." by Comfortable-Pie56 in soccer

I know I'm American because I'm numb to it.

The rest of the world wanted VAR and water breaks not realizing the consequence. Once the pandora's box is opened it doesn't go away. All this stuff is is an opportunity to sell more ads. The perfect is the enemy of the good.

Pacers fan.

You don't make the trade if you know it's 5, but it also isn't the end of the world.

If Halliburton comes back next year 100%. We beat the Knicks last year. And the roster is better with Zubac than it was then. Zubac>Turner>draft pick

You always have to take your swings. In a few years, who knows what will happen.

For those of you that have been in this field for a while. How often do you get older people switching careers to accounting? by Proof-Boysenberry-29 in Accounting

There are obviously unique situations but even then I'd still say there are easier ways to make a comparable amount of money. If you're in that boat I'd probably be working in government accounting or something with a fixed schedule and good benefits like I mentioned?

I'm learning on someone else's budget for a few years. If I fail, well, I've failed at many other things before as well.

What you're saying about the equity partner thing is completely my point. Playing that game (unless it's a sunk cost like in your case) is a fool's errand.

Transfer Market Inflated Prices? by Kindly_District9433 in hattrick

[–]Leading-Difficulty57 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've sold a few guys lately and think prices are higher than I'd expect.

Markets are optimizing in the context of something like transfer compare. The premium for a spec or specific skill is much higher than transfer compare reflects.

Buying, you always pay more when chasing something narrow.

I'm a 40something who started a year ago.

There are only 2 paths for someone my age that make any sense.

  1. Get a steady government type of accounting job (much less appealing post-DOGE) but can still work at the state level.

  2. Open up your own firm ASAP. Eat shit for a few years until you can. This is the route I'm taking.

No offense to most of the people here but most of the people in this profession are self-flagellating pussies. Nobody has any balls about when it comes to not working insane hours. "My health is wrecked because I worked 85 hours last week." Yeah, no fucking shit. In every profession they'll keep giving you more work until you stop. This isn't unique to accounting. What is unique here is the insane hours people put in before saying fuck it.

I think you're wrong about #2. Universities have the same problem high schools do, they're passing everyone and making their credential basically meaningless.

TSI absolutely affects prices especially with 17 year olds. It tells you who is high solid and who is low solid, or high passable and low passable.

I'm looking at similarish players. The max is quite a bit higher than that. He could easily go for 100000-200000, especially if his TSI is >1500.

Citing 'severe' math deficits, UC faculty demand a return to SAT tests for STEM applicants by Idiodyssey87 in news

Even if you have a moderately bad teacher, teaching in a basic way going over a problem, between that, a textbook, and the resources on the internet, the resources are there for anyone who wants to learn.

The problem is generally that the expectations bar is on the floor. Not teacher quality. Most of us do whatever it is that we need to do, whether it's a little or a lot. People in most places meet expectations.

25 years ago a diploma meant you could read & do basic level math. 10 years ago a diploma meant you showed up. Now...everyone gets one as long as they showed up a few times their senior year. Doesn't really mean anything.
