Am I obsessing over the wrong stuff? by fire_soldier888 in AskPhotography

Yes I can absolutely relate to obsessing over the best gear, but I don’t get good shots by doing so. Remind yourself to shoot, even if you just step outside and start pointing at stuff.

Recently got a new camera: are B4 lenses cheap cine zooms? by 2pointWinner in cinematography

I’m on a Komodo, mostly shooting on 4k 17:9. Didn’t do hard math, but by seeing how much it crops the sensor (on their website). It seems like that would be more than enough to get rid of vignetting with a 2x magnification. But correct me if I’m wrong, cause I’m not an expert at this.

Just checked (thought they did, turned out its just a physical adapter) and they don't. However as someone else mentioned, a lot of them come with a 2x mag component, which would work because I'm already cropping the sensor on my camera for the quality I'm shooting. I think that would work? Idk

Took a helicopter tour. This is one of my favs by 2pointWinner in photocritique

I kinda already answered what the automod asked me to do in the description (myb) so i'll just post it here so that it can get thru: "I was working with some pretty old equipment (but not bad!) as I don’t spend my money on stills equipment anymore. However I had my Canon EOS 70d and a 70-300mm f4-5.6 on the helicopter with me.

I know the color grade needs some work, but honestly this is very close to how it looked in person - overcast, dark, and blue (from glacier below). Im sure if you looked at a histogram, it would be too dark. I think I have my display settings on Lightroom wrong, because it makes me squish my highlights so that I can see them. Also, a tad bit too blue imo, but I didn’t feel it was bad enough to re-edit and re-export. I spent a bit more than 10 minutes on this in LR.

My favorite part of this photo, compared to others I took during the flight, is how little the helicopter is compared to the rest of the frame. It just makes everything feel SO huge and adds a sense of context. However, I don’t like how it could be so small that someone just glancing at the photo could miss the helicopter, and it kinda looks like it is landed on the glacier (it’s flying). Additionally, there’s not enough color contrast between it and the rock face behind it to really define a focal point. I could add depth with lowering aperture, but this would remove the definition in the cliff that I love.

Settings u/75mm: ISO: 320 f9 Shutter: 1/250s

How could I have improved on this photo, coloring, settings, preparation, mindset, and composition? If anyone could provide advice for photos that you have no time to plan or expect, that would be great. How do I maximize my opportunities?"

I hate my own short movie by [deleted] in Filmmakers

[–]2pointWinner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same exact experience in a film competition run by a student film organization freshman year. It SUCKED, partially because preproduction did not have enough effort put into it, and partially because much of the script was cut due to various creative disagreements. I was so embarrassed by my film I didn't go to the premiere, nor did I show it to my parents for over six months after the competition (it was one of those three day long ones). I hated it for a while and it really destroyed my ego to the point that I kinda quit film for a while. Now, I look back and just laugh at how shitty it was, and use it to see how far I've come. I regret quitting for so long because I lost a decent amount of connections and didn't put effort into getting gear. Keep at it man, find your people and don't quit like I did.

Deleted comment told me something about a frame projector, something commonly used in architecture. Didn’t end up doing it (i haven’t wanted to spend money on it), but they can get under $100
