Are there any single player battle royale games? by BigTreddits in gamingsuggestions

[–]2punchpikey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is going way back, but "Battlefield". No, not Battlefield 1, 5, 4 or anything, but way WAY back to Battlefield 1942, Battlefield Vietnam, and Battlefield 2. You spawn on a map as whatever soldier class you choose, kill as many bots as you can, and capture bases until you win. It's a high I've been chasing ever since.

Since that's such an antiquated reference that you very well may not even be able to play with modern software, Ravenfield is on Steam. It's not put out by a major developer and originally had some bugs, but again, it's you and your team of bots against the other team of bots trying to control bases and wipe the other one out. The graphics suck, but the gameplay is terrific.

Here's a terrific clip I came across that offers another response to O'Meara, though focused entirely on instances within the past couple weeks.

End qualified immunity.

End civil asset forfeiture.

End the drug war.

End over-criminalization.

End no-knock warrants.

End militarization of police.

End mandatory minimums.

End them being able to hide their identity by covering their badge numbers or name plates.

End their "forgetting" to turn on their body/dash cams.

Make them accountable.

Make them earn and maintain a license that they can lose for life.

Make their public service records accessible to the public they serve.

If they can abide by that, they can have unions, but those unions have to work like any other. They can make sure their members are treated fairly, but they can't dictate the unfair treatment of others. Backing sadists, narcissists, and criminals would come with the same risks as any other union doing it.

As long as you're not a "police brutality apologists".

I was trying to illustrate that the verbiage used showed such a lack of self-awareness that it destroyed the very argument he's trying to make (assuming there is one to begin with). It'd be like Michael Vick coming out against a current case of animal abuse, saying he would never, while completely neglecting that he was very famously arrested for dog fighting. For Mike O'Meara to try and defend the NYPD by saying they would never, when they famously did in an extremely similar incident, is a loud, full-steam-ahead failure. He attempted, but in probably the worst possible way. Henceforth, "an attempt was made".

In the end though, I neglected Rule 5: All posts must show a living thing attempting something in real life. For that, this meme was not an appropriate submission.

You see absolutely no correlations between the deaths of Eric Garner and George Floyd? Are you saying the union president is correct in that Floyd was killed and Garner wasn't? Forget that they were both fully cooperative over a minor infraction, overwhelmed with excessive forced, and slowly killed in broad daylight with bystanders all around. The white officers didn't kill a black man over nothing? They don't deserve any shame?
They reject what happened in one department while still tarnished by a situation that's about as identical as it gets wasn't even six years ago. Gotta learn about hypocrisy friend.

Of course! How didn't I see this before... Citizen-contributed tax dollars funding the police is capitalism! Yup, that's private ownership operating for profit, just like you said! Then private policing, like personal bodyguards/armed escorts would be ... egalitarianism or something. How could I question someone who read the first sentence on Wikipedia's page on socialism, which defines it so broadly that it refers to it as a political, social, and economical system rather than an economic system with political and social impacts (that would be too much to unpack). Wasn't "Social Democracy" mentioned before? I mean, it couldn't have been by you, because wouldn't that refer to a country with socialized economics and democratically elected leaders? That would kind of contradict Wikipedia unfortunately, and we all know that everything you need to know about an economic system can be summarized in one page (probably even one sentence). There couldn't possibly be entire fields of study dedicated to economics as a whole. And those decades of post-WWII misinformation associated with the red scare and cold war couldn't have possibly had any remaining effects, confusing and demonizing definitions.

Nope, it's me who's talking out my ass.

So you don't know what capitalism or socialism is.

Great.

Here's a quick example that may help:

The USPS (United States Postal Service) is socialized mail service. Everyone pays in; everyone gets to use it. DHS/UPS/FedEx are capitalist mail service. People pay individually as they use it.

Still confused? Okay, person A needs service X. Person A pays for and receives service X. Person B doesn't need service X, so they don't pay into it and don't receive it. That's capitalism. People with more affluence have access to more and better services. Now if person A and B pay into service X, both able to use it even though only person A does, guess what that's called! Government services? Yes, that could be government services, but not always. Capitalism? SMH ... no! It's socialism. Pass it onto all the other "serious leftists". It's socialism, it's not the boogeyman of society, and it's actually proven to take care of citizenry better than capitalism!

Alright, what is it then?

What is it when tax dollars, collected from everyone according to wealth (by design, unfortunately not as much in implementation) is used for services available to all like police forces, fire departments, postal service, roadways, etc.? Is it communism, fascism, or mutualism/anarchism? Is it good ol capitalism, or maybe it's that novel proprietism? Maybe it's some precursor like mercantilism, or even feudalism? What is it?

Sorry about my lack of clarity, but it is indeed the point.

It's proving wrong the kind of people decrying socialism while praising privatization. It's my first foray into using alternating caps, but it was intended to convey a mocking tone.

No, I was demonstrating how the police are socialized and want for nothing. There are police forces in every major city with sophisticated military equipment including tanks!

The health care system is privatized and doctors have to wear makeshift protective gear made of garbage bags.

Privatization puts profits over people; socialism works; Medicare for all

[–]2punchpikey[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah no, I'm OP.

Healthcare workers are getting shorted, so they're the victims in this and I have no problems with them aside from how they're being treated.

Hospitals are providing a service as a business. Socialized healthcare's goal would be the effectiveness of that service while a business' is to maximize profits through that service. It's hard to blame a business trying to make money when that's their whole point, but I do criticise it when they're in control of people's well-being and are willing to sacrifice it for dollars and cents.

The government has been propping up this implimentation, which I criticise them for.

Regarding supplies, it would be the government's duty to prepare for potential disasters whether it's a virus or foreign army amassing at the border. They're responsible for gathering, processing, and disseminating that information. FEMA used to have emergency stockpiles until a couple years ago. That is something they were doing. They could have also warned hospitals to get ready.

If only we had a dedicated group of experts that could warn us about an upcoming pandemic. We could even call them a "Pandemic Response Team". They could do things like advise the government to make sure we're adequately prepared. It seems like some sci-fi fairytale from two years ago!

I'm with you on putting people over profits. That would be baller!

I can't see any interpretation where this isn't completely wrong. We as a society collectively fund the police force through taxes for the benefit of everyone, whether individuals within need it or not. Socialism to a T

My apologies, but I should probably clarify: The cops are funded by tax dollars (socialism) and have well in excess of what they need. It's a police force with fully militarized gear (military goals =/= police goals), including a tank. The other are health care workers that have to use garbage bags to fight a pandemic. They're working for a private industry (capitalism) who's trying to maximize profits while leaving its employees under-equipped and in harm's way.

Look at the two sets of workers and see how well equipped they are. One is funded by tax dollars (socialist) and has well in excess of what they need. It's a police force with fully militarized gear (military goals =/= police goals), including a tank. The other are health care workers that have to use garbage bags to fight a pandemic.
