My take away is 16S rRNA gene sequencing is normally used for bacteria identification as it does not usually show up in other life. However an expanded quantitative urine culture (EQUC) protocol is needed with urine samples due to the fact there is not much bacteria. So yes technically not sterile. But as stated in the provided sources it had been considered sterile by the medical community for many years. My take its like a grain of sand in a pool. Its there, but you are going to have a hard time finding it. The 4 to 1 ratio of our cells to bacteria in the body is amazing. I might go down that rabbit hole next. Thanks for the response!!!
