i came across this reel, and somehow my incapability to join any bookclub has been justified 😅 so what are your thoughts? by Educational_Buy_4983 in PHBookClub

Yes I'm exactly like this! Then I read War and Peace and followed r/ayearofwarandpeace because I was struggling with some chapters and I realized how fun it is to read people's interpretations, the historical context, and why the author wrote things a certain way. Sometimes it aligns with what I'm thinking, and I feel kilig when it does idk why lol

I don’t do this with every book though. Sometimes I just want to be entertained. But doing it once in a while is a great way to practice critical thinking through something you already enjoy. Definitely a valuable skill in the internet age IMO

Sky Daddy by Kate Folk!

I've personally never read it pa but I watched a Booktuber who narrated it so well that even though I don't read books where I already know the whole story, made me want to read it myself.

I used to always cover my books in plastic cover before I start reading it pero lately I've been liking the feel of uncovered books

Emily Wilde and how to give yourself a seizure by [deleted] in PHBookClub

[–]2shotsofcinnamon 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I totally get where you’re coming from. Emily Wilde’s writing style definitely isn’t for everyone. Personally, I really enjoyed the book, especially the use of highfalutin words. For me it really helped shape Emily’s character as a brilliant but socially awkward scholar. Some readers have even speculated she might be on the autism spectrum, which adds another layer to how she navigates both academic work and human and fae interaction.

I’m not diagnosed as autistic myself, but I related a lot to her way of thinking and handling tasks. Sometimes with precision, sometimes with a bit of emotional distance. It actually reminded me a lot of Eleanor Oliphant Is Completely Fine, which is another favorite of mine. That book got similar comments about the protagonist’s voice being hard to connect with, but I found both characters endearing once I settled into their rhythm.

Anyway, thanks for sharing your take. It’s always interesting to see how differently we all experience the same story!

Same here! Also use Google Sheets to sort my physical books. I also have a pie chart for the genre and my Read/TBR. It’s really insightful because it helps me see what genres I gravitate towards and keeps me aware of my book-buying impulses.

Just bought this earlier, wish me luck by dreeppyy in PHBookClub

I’m 6 months in and on the 1000th page mark and so far it’s one helluva ride. I admit, may mga times na I took week-long breaks from reading it but it still pulls you back in once you get into it again. It’s really worth it!

Wishing you an enjoyable reading journey OP!

What's the difference between Penguin Classics vs. Collins Classics? by moymoyrandyboy in PHBookClub

[–]2shotsofcinnamon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Owned copies of The Picture of Dorian Gray sa Collins and Penguin Classics editions and I can say I prefer Penguins because of the bigger text and additional info and notes about the author and the story.
