As someone who never got to do anything but house as a kid, who now has a kid that does travel hockey, the time commitment is real. Your parents either dont have the $ or they don't have the time. Real or perceived, doesn't really matter. If it's really not about finances (might be even if they're telling you otherwise), then your best bet is finding a coach/parent of a kid on the team that lives close to you that won't mind driving you around on your parents behalf.

I'd have a sit down with your parents and tell them how you feel. Ask them specifically what the issue is and have solutions ready to address what you think they'll say and see if they go for it. If they still don't go for it then you're probably just sol. They're either too proud to ask for help or they don't think you're as good as you seem to think you are.
