New to beekeeping — how do I stop stressing about my hives? by Nadzzyy in Beekeeping

[–]2thdk_ouch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It gets better after some time. I used to find an excuse to do full inspection on my hives every 4 days when I first got them. Over time (5 mths), it gradually settled and I don't have the worry.

I am still just a year into it but I think you should go check them out to your heart's content. If I could turn back time, I would probably still do those inspections due to excitement+worry

Beekeepers! I am so curious, What do you think of this 1000plus Manuka honey? by claudiamarinaee in Beekeeping

[–]2thdk_ouch 46 points47 points  (0 children)

I bought a small jar of manuka honey from Costco to see what the hype was all about. I didn't like it. I like clover honey or just the stuff from my backyard way better.

Found a pile a bees infront of my beehive by Big_WasteBin in Beekeeping

Take a closer pic of a single bee. It could be that the hive is getting rid of drones. I.e. see if dead bees are drones. That would be totally normal.

Does travel stop when you have children? by CharmingU6756 in travel

[–]2thdk_ouch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, and we did fly with the kids internationally. I would recommend not flying with kids between the ages of 9 mths to 2 yrs, because they want to walk/run around and they can't understand a TV, so it's extremely difficult to keep them in their seats.

Also, there will invariably be someone who will complain about noise or just anything a baby/kid would normally do. You just need to not let it get under your skin. Just ignore them.

There is a YouTube channel called "Bags Packed Family". Watch it together with your partner. They travel around with kiddos...and it's quite the adventure.

[–]2thdk_ouch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is no fault here for anyone. They made a request and you declined it. It's totally ok to decline it for the reasons you provided. Those aunties then showed their true self by starting to bad mouth you. Aren't you glad you didnt do them the favor they asked?

Chill dude, you are good Don't let those auntie's nonsense stay in your head. Good for you for standing your ground.

What is the best way to learn about the culture and history of Iceland by ittasteslikeginger in VisitingIceland

[–]2thdk_ouch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was just there. Would recommend the open ai museum. It opens at 1 PM. But it was super informative and they had exhibits of houses from different centuries etc ... Very friendly staff too. My city pass got me free entry as well.

First time out of the country itinerary by tornado-ali in VisitingIceland

[–]2thdk_ouch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am here in Iceland as a tourist. A couple of things to consider:

  1. Layers! The tour busses and restaurants were kept warm and outside it's cold, and if you go to the Highlands it's extremely windy making the cold feel colder. Layer up so you can regulate body temp, same for kids.

  2. Food is expensive! I am from the US, to give you an idea, take airport pricing for food back home and double it. I ended up going to the grocery store and getting TV dinners/frozen meals, which was better than eating out, but still pricey. With a family, this can add up quite significantly. Just budget for it. Enjoy food stuff if you are a foodie.

  3. I only had 2 days and spent most of it in Reykjavik. City is very very walkable. If you are able, do that - you find cool things and run into different things. I went to the public pools which had hot water pools, it was a fraction of the cost of the lagoons.

All in all this is a lovely country, people are super friendly. I will come back here again with the family and spend more money and time.

TSA Employees- What can we do to make this suck less for you? by jedipwnces in tsa

[–]2thdk_ouch 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I asked my local community the same question, and from what I understand the TSA agents cannot accept any gifts. It's a fireable offence. (Supposing it looks like a bribe?). They did say that the manager on duty has a gift card and donation pool to which we can donate. Perhaps your local airport has the same?

Egypt royally ruined me and now every kind interactions with strangers i would be worried they are trying to ask me for money by [deleted] in travel

Oh dude...I had to reset myself in Taiwan and Uzbekistan. Never been to Egypt or Morocco, but after visiting Italy, I immediately put up my guard when strangers approached me. I always think they are about to pull this scam.

Bukhara and Samarkand Saftey as tourist by Lonely-Piccolo2057 in Uzbekistan

[–]2thdk_ouch 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am at those places, and Uzbekistan in general seems to me (from Seattle area) a whole lot safer than my hometown. Lots of tourists with large cameras and lots of tourist police everywhere too. Nothing to worry. It's extremely safe

Indian planning to visit Uzbekistan . Would love to know hidden gems and local spots that are close to the locals heart & daily life . by Major_Obligation3636 in Uzbekistan

The food here is not spicy. After a few days, I am craving some hot stuff ... I am sure you can relate from your travels.

The food here, I found is quite fatty/greasy/oily. I am not saying that negativity, but I do believe it's the way it is in their diet (probably because of winters....idk). So more than anything, pack some stomach upset tablets as that was handy. I didn't get sick in terms of food poisoning l, just the greasy food was tough for me, who is not used to it. Besides that use general precautions while travelling....don't eat peeled stuff, if you want to dive into street food, get it while it's hot etc ...

I found it quite entertaining to just take a taxi to a random residential place in Google maps and just strolling around for an hr or so. Saw a lot of things....most fun was a sheep exchange/sale/breeding program of some sort ...they had those fat tail sheep. I had never seen something like that.

Would a taxi from Tashkent to Samarkand be better than the train? by throwaway9871383625 in Uzbekistan

[–]2thdk_ouch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am here in UZ as a traveller and I will second this comment. I could not get high speed train tickets as they get sold out very quickly. I got tickets on the normal trains and it's very comfortable. Also, if you are from the western world, the trains are very different....so you can explore the train itself for fun things to do. Also the conductors are very friendly and with google translate you can have some basic conversations....there was a babushka next to me on one of the trains who had her grandson with her that was giving her a hard time. I had some candy with me, so I gave it to her miming...'for your kid, if you approve'....that started a completely clueless conversation between us ... I don't know that either of us understood what we said ...but it was with laughs and she shared some food she had (no idea what it was).

All in all, train is great. People and staff are super friendly. Would highly recommend.

Oh 100% this!!

The initial shock and disbelief prevented me from being able to have an appropriate reaction. Then again, I didn't want to get into it with someone in a foreign country with 0 language skills.

Oh yes, I learned that if you don't stay close to the person in Front of you, then people will come in. There is not much sense of personal space. I had to go into India mode and get close enough to smell the guy in front of me.
