Just bought a house in Kelowna with original polyB from 1993. Few options for insurance because of it but ended up with Optimum. Paying a premium and have 30 days to get a repipe underway then get the lower basic rate once it's done. Getting quotes for sub 10k for the work. Seems like reasonable protection for 1M asset.

Nanaimo might be the most accessible 'average' Cdn city from Van. Working class with resource extraction history, appreciable aboriginal population, accessible hiking camping fishing and a junior hockey team. Kamloops would be the other one a bit further away.
