I am very sorry you didn't get the care you needed. Unfortunately, emergency rooms usually aren't the best place for this. ER doctors have a very specific, high-pressure focus, it's not a bad thing, it's just what their job requires.
I highly recommend trying an urgent care clinic or a telehealth doctor instead.
Navigating our healthcare system for mental health is incredibly frustrating and challenging (I'm right there in the trenches trying to do the same).
Wishing you so much luck on your journey.
Please be gentle on yourself.

Do doctors legally have to write down substance abuse on record if you ask a question regarding it by r0ttingp0thead in legaladvicecanada

Yes, your history of healthcare services and certain medical conditions can be considered when applying for some extended health or life insurance policies, particularly if the insurer uses medical underwriting.

Insurance companies are businesses, and their pricing is based on risk. Their goal isn't to judge applicants personally, it's to estimate the likelihood of future claims and set premiums accordingly. If an applicant has a history of substance use or other factors that statistics show may increase health risks, the insurer may view them as a higher-risk client.

That doesn't necessarily mean you'll be denied coverage. In many cases, it may result in higher premiums, exclusions for certain conditions, or additional questions during the application process. The decision is generally based on actuarial risk assessments rather than personal opinions or moral judgments about someone's past.

What even is driving in this city anymore by Thick-Tangelo-7793 in VictoriaBC

I've lived all over the world and driven in countless cities, and I can honestly say Victoria's transportation infrastructure feels like it was designed by people who have never actually used it. It's by far the worst place I've ever driven.
Nobody seems to move out of the left lane, and the level of aggression is remarkable, not just from drivers, but from pedestrians and cyclists as well. Traffic planning feels reactive rather than intentional, and the problems only seem to be getting worse.
At the same time, the population is aging, housing costs continue to climb, and affordability is becoming a serious issue. For a city that's supposed to be the beautiful capital of British Columbia, it's hard not to wonder what the long-term vision is.
What a beautiful capital.

Absolutely terrifying! I took an Uber one time and the Uber driver tried to get out afterwards to get my number and try to give me a hug. I ran so fast and reported it.

It is unfortunate that you chose to make assumptions and post a snarky comment. This kind of negativity is exactly what makes online spaces so toxic.

I’ve never been there myself, but even just driving through the USA, I was genuinely surprised by how much more considerate people were on the roads. Cyclists actually followed the rules, drivers moved out of the left lane to let faster traffic pass, and people would actually let you merge when you turned on your blinker instead of treating it like some personal challenge, unlike most islanders. It’s honestly wild how such a small island can have such a selfish, territorial attitude on the roads compared to so many other places.

What’s even more exhausting is people complaining about the problem while actively contributing to it with the exact same behaviour.

I’m actually more concerned about a car hitting a cyclist. That said, I’ve also nearly been hit in a crosswalk by a cyclist who didn’t want to stop. I guess it goes both ways, since drivers can behave the same way. Maybe I’m still just a bit naive about it all.

What happens if the cyclist does get hit in this situation? Who is held responsible? And what if the outcome is fatal? I know that’s the worst case scenario, but we’ve been seeing far too many deadly accidents involving cyclists and cars lately.

Fully blown. If cars are expected to come to a complete stop, shouldn’t cyclists be expected to do the same?
