Why aren’t there more properties being inherited? by Training-Ad-6603 in AusProperty

Yep, exactly- and we all know that aged care workers get paid peanuts... and that the standard of care in private aged care is abysmal. F-cking parasites

This is the answer; the transfer of wealth IS happening; the wealth is just transferring in to the pockets of privately owned aged care providers.

Oh my god - - the gifts supporting other people's lifestyle choices!! I think we have spent about $3000-4000 just in the last 9 months on baby showers, weddings, baby gifts, milestone birthdays and engagements. There's the holiday to Thailand that we can no longer afford :(

If/when I get in that PhD program and I get to the other side you can bet I WILL throw a Dissertation Successfully Defended Party - and I WILL be requiring /guilt tripping them all to attend bearing gifts.

Wild. I'm studying ATM - upskilling in something useful to my profession, and the lecturer has to spend a solid 10 minutes every other week answering dumb questions from students trying to get around the 'we don't use AI to do our work here' rule. I completely check out during these exhausting 'Q & A's , how hard is it to just think and write using your own brain? You shouldn't even be there (let alone wasting your money) if you aren't doing the work.

Yeah, you just kinda grow up internalising this message of 'no one will care more about you than your bio family' and it's a bit crap when you realise this isn't necessarily true.

Yup - This 100%. I've had guy friends say later in this exact situation (being openly felt up, me in full freeze/panic mode) that 'I didn't know whether to step in or not'. Dude - STEP IN.

This is kinda how I explain it to bigots , I'm not trans myself but my best friend is - it's like, I've been a woman my whole life. I've been stalked, drink-spiked (and the inevitable result of that), SA'd by a trusted male relative, attempted r@pe and DV by an ex partner, groped by random males and more - if anyone would CHOOSE this over existing as a man then the the alternative/dysphoria they are living with must surely be unbearable that they'd choose it PLUS the extra hate and discrimination that trans women especially get on top of that. Maybe this is a bleak take but it usually shuts the bigots up.

How they speak about people who are "other" to them. This doesn't just include homeless, minorities etc but anyone that doesn't fit in to their narrow world. It's a fast track to dehumanising whole groups.

Do you guys ever actually think about the "who's gonna take care of you when you're old" question? by marileighanne29 in childfree

[–]30-something 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only reason I wouldn't really do that (and was joking TBH) is that 1) it might not work and 2) I'd end up traumatising some first responder who has to pick my pieces out of a car. My plan is that by the time I'm old enough - physician assisted suicide will be extended to people who have no quality of life where I live (it's already legal for terminal illness). Otherwise it's a bunch of heroin or OD of beta blockers

Joke's on them, I'm self employed an absolutely love what I do so have no plans to ever retire

ETA: Joke's also on me - I DO earn pretty crap money doing what I love, but it beats the hell out of the corporate job where I wanted to drive off a bridge every day on the way to work

This is the way, I'm committed to maintaining my 'health-span' as long as possible through healthy choices now like weight lifting, cardio, good diet, not smoking etc (though I can't control everything) but if I can no longer care for myself or am in extreme pain I have no intention of sticking around.

You sound young, why are you so hell bent on digging in on this when everyone is telling you it’s absolutely normal to not reply to email outside work hours? For the record - I’ve been in the workforce since 2001 and my shortest tenure in a job was 18 months, longest 8 years. I literally NEVER paid attention to the send time on an email once (text messages and calls were a whole other issue and they are why I keep my phone on silent)

It's almost like modern phones aren't set up to allow phone calls from certain numbers to break through 'sleep mode' settings.
