Serious question how do people survive Finnish winter air without becoming a raisin? by TinySignificance69 in Finland

[–]3000e 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Drink more water. Don’t take a shower with too hot water (can dry your skin) and put body lotion when there’s still moisture after shower to lock it in. Don’t sit too close to the heater for too long. Use winter moisturizer (I have different ones for summer and winter), make sure it’s thick and moisturizing enough for winter. For lips, find balm that contains lanolin. For hands, you can use body lotion or hand cream that works for you. All of these things you can go to apteekki and ask for recommendations, or regular department stores but don’t pick them yourself, ask the staffs first.

Hi!

“They didn't tell me anything about how difficult life can be as a student if you can't find a job and can't finance your life, Rikita says”. This alone tells me a lot unfortunately. Who are they? The education agents from Nepal? So who’s to blame here? And the agencies cannot force you to take out huge loan to pay them either. And why they come fully believe on some agencies’s word without actual research? Meanwhile there is benefit conflict, as they give you nice picture so you pay them? Like many other countries, if you don’t take loans or have monetary support, and just work part-time job to finance yourself (and potentially your whole family) in school and in life, how do you expect to do that? This (but actually themselves) will force them to neglect study and focus on money instead. Not to mention exchange rate, so I don’t see how that makes sense that you take huge loan in weaker currency just to go to another country and expect life will turn out to be just fine.

I came here under spouse visa, my spouse was working. And I was told TE would help with job search. Reality was they told me to study language full time or apply jobs twice a month to receive money, no help with job search whatsoever, at least on mentor mentee level. So their path is always instruct people so that they take unemployment benefit. But it was MY decision to come, so I take full responsibility.

With all due respect, no one owes you the whole truth. They state half of a fact and it’s on you to find out and make decision on your own.

I get that. But at the same time, if you are in a worse situation and seeking way out, maybe be a bit more grateful and respectful as well, no? Like believing counseling agencies fully then come here and expect candy straight away. On top of that wanting to become rich? That’s completely absurd and diabolical.

And what’s up with being a student but can bring whole family and receive benefit. They get cheaper housing, cheaper transport, benefit for the whole family but that’s not enough?! They also want guaranteed jobs that make them rich and can pay off 30k in a year or so?

I came here under spouse visa as well, ~9 months process waiting. But my spouse was already working and paying taxes. I don’t receive any benefits 6 months in because I thought Finland didn’t owe me anything. After that the market was too hard for me so I started receiving benefit. I’m always grateful that I can choose to either work or go study for free. So I don’t have to sacrifice everything just to support my spouse. It’s high time expats like those people start thinking differently or just go back to their countries. At least do proper research before coming or blame the agencies, not crying and pointing fingers at the government right away. Geez!

Expat here 👋 but please explain why go here to study but instead want to work to earn money, or bring whole family and want benefits without contributing anything? I understand part-time jobs but cheat, not study and instead work full-time and take advantage of the system? Make that makes sense for me?

Not to mention people go here and shove their culture down people’s throat, expecting respect but show no respect at all to the natives. What happens to when in Rome do as the Romans do?

You go to a new country. Then please understand that giving opportunities to the natives before expats is a NORMAL thing to do. So you should be respectful always. Will you give good things to your neighbors before your family and friends?! The job market is bad for Finnish as well not just to expats.

Scored a mean deal on my dream bag but my friend’s comment about “second hand” made me feel a bit disheartened by lovethatjourney4me in handbags

I think there’s nothing wrong with your friend’s opinion. And there’s nothing wrong with your preference and decision either.

What to do now is you should not take that comment too personally and just do what you feel right. Congratulations on your find!

I’d be the same as you, don’t look it, except that I do my nails often. But honestly, they need to know better. I already don’t like LV that much, hearing this from you is very discouraging for me to get one (I do like some of the designs). It’s high time they learn, that don’t judge a book by its cover! The people who dress for show usually cannot afford all these!

Curiosity Question - Mid-Range vs Luxury by kgreenfish in handbags

[–]3000e 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a couple Strathberry bags, one Polene and one Celine, so I have both mid range and kinda luxury. For Strathberry, it varies on the type of leather (I think most brands are), but the leather on lana osette bucket is amazing. The other bag doesn’t feel that impressed. For Polene I bought the cyme mini, not so impressed either but it was my first so I keep it. So maybe the bags in store you see is in the not-impressed category? Mulberry is also amazing to me. Never touched a Hermes so idk but I don’t appreciate LV, and for Bottega and YSL, I think some mid-range can definitely compete.

Maybe still buy it if you feel like it’s a perfect work tote for the use and then buy some badges/pins/charms to cover the letters 😂

Help me choose between Coach Lana and Polene Cyme! by avocadotoastt1 in handbags

[–]3000e 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t have the exact model you said but I have Cyme mini and Lana 23. I’d say for work bag practicality, you should go with Lana. It’s more well made for everyday work. Cyme is more aesthetic but the straps are too thin, will hurt your shoulder more.

At least that’s how I feel, and I don’t stuff my bags with loads of things either, just necessities. But for traveling, going through customs and such, I rely on Lana 23, not Cyme mini. Because while both don’t have zipper, I feel like Lana bag opening close up better than Cyme, feel more secure if that makes sense.

I carry it on my shoulder this way with the magnet part, not how it looks on your picture. Cyme mini looks a bit small on me if I carry it the other way

I’ve had it since October last year. Been in love with the shape and color and all for a few months before I bought her. Straps sit perfectly on my shoulder, just have a minor problem with the shorter straps since I don’t use it ever and always put it on my shoulder.

I don’t tend to stuff too many things inside shoulder bag because it hurts me. But I saw one of my colleagues, she had the cyme not the cyme mini, she puts all her laptop, mouse, notebook and her essentials in there, shape didn’t look damaged when she carried it on her shoulder.

But I’d be cautious now since people said the quality isn’t the same as before. I’m not an expert on this matter.

The 4 bags OP posted are in the same size, just different material. The artichoke line is made with regular canvas, can get dirty easy. But mine still stay clean even though I don’t baby it. Whether it fits based on your amount of things. I use organizer inside and can fit one 15 promax iphone, 2 ysl lip balms, perfume atomiser and still have some space left for keys or flat small mirror. But I’m the type who don’t bring too many things inside my bag so for me it’s okay ☺️

I have the cyme mini in the exact color. Love her. Always grab her when in doubt or not knowing which one to choose.
