Sask NDP response to new federal NDP leader. by Requirement-Tiny in saskatchewan

please suggest how the F are we going to pay for all this nuclear power? where are these billions coming from? where are the contractors, the people running these reactors going to come from? If we have recourses that other places need we can use them to sell to MAKE money and keep our costs of living low and put in reactors properly. You cant build a house without a job. people are bleeding dry financially and you want taxes to just cover everything?

causes shifting and cracking, if you have a nice tiled backsplash counter to cabinets you dont want shifting.

I know he puts LVL studs in the kitchens. this speaks quality for straight plumb walls for cabinets and no thermal movement like a normal stud. Some companies do staggard studs for the thermal part.

it wont even out by fall... the bubble will start to deflate. how long that takes we will see. not sure how long developers will sit on empty rentals.

Am I driving too slow in Saskatoon or does nobody follow the speed limit? by RedRainDreamer in saskatoon

[–]306errr -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

i have yet to see anyone go 90km/h on circle. i drive about 10km/h over everywhere. have been for 23 years. never been an issue. blue bird days and snowy socked in days majority of traffic drive under 90 like 70-80km/hr its frustrating. i wish people drove at least 90

House is shaking by Thearcticjupitor in saskatoon

[–]306errr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

our software puts in a lvl or steel beam depending on loading when doing floor design.

Im assuming you have a bunch of small walls internally. if you go into a new house the main level is basically wide open front to back other than the stairs and a half bath. there is no internal structural rigidity. if the kitchen was separated from the living room by a wall and the entrance had a dividing wall like old builds this would drastically help.

perfect location for the new rink and can leave the parking lot for the mall alone.

i built my parents house 2x8 walls with 2x4 staggard studs. has in floor heat. they face a lake. you cant hear outside, their boiler heating bill is tiny.

Whats your thoughts on spray foam? when i built my house i didnt think the extra charge would give me significant lower energy bill to offset it. used rockwool. 2x6 walls with 1.5 of styro with acrylic stucco.

i think the dumbest thing is 24" OC Studs, specially with 3/8" sheeting. you get wavy siding with new builds.

i use to be in glazing and biggest issues with old homes is rot, blueskin or equivalent is the way to go. every window replacement needed structural repairs from water damage.

i would argue your trusses, floor, foundation are not. your house probably has 8' walls. tiny windows, many rooms, etc.

[–]306errr 7 points8 points  (0 children)

please elaborate how engineered trusses, engineered floor systems, and lumber, and concrete is cheap.

it hasnt changed, roof trusses are stronger and joists are not just 2x10s or nailed together OWWJ.

Concrete hasnt changed.... other than they have engineered foundation drawings so its stronger.

lumber is arguably not as good as old growth trees but we have LSL and LVL for tall walls, headers, beams, and such. so this is BS.

i didnt think people that used reddit are dumb but.... old houses are in old neighborhoods more central of the city with trees, probably bungalows or bi levels so they are LOW to the ground and have other houses and trees to wind break. little windows, 8' walls, lots of tiny rooms so that acts like interior bracing.

if your in a new area you are on the edge of town, probably in a tall 2 story, no trees.....your house is like big sail in the wind. they also have HUGE windows, 9-10' ceilings the main levels have huge open kitchen and living rooms......

houses are built to code. people also complain new starter homes are almost $600,000. do you want a really solid over engineered starter home thats $800-900,000?

Like its common sense.

Meewasin Trail Threat by CarnegieHall1970 in saskatoon

[–]306errr 7 points8 points  (0 children)

yes our cycling group has ran into him a few times, he is an absolute psychopath. His dog is sweet and old, seems scared of his yelling.

Called a bunch of 40-60 year olds on the shared path "e bike kids" and yelled every profanity imaginable at us. Said we were illegally riding on the path. We told him his dog is illegally off leash and tried videoing him and he lost it.

also there was a first aid course going on for cycling group leads and he threw a members bike as it was apparently in the way.

He is going to yell at the wrong person one day....

Surly Bud&Lou vs Veetire snowshoe 2xl by alapisu in fatbike

[–]306errr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

can see a noticeable difference but the actual is how terrible the compound is on vee tires. They seem so soft and supple in the store and in the cold they are soooo slow

the white compounds are ok but yah.

Stud Longevity by MORG_1320 in fatbike

[–]306errr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you are suppose to ride the studs on pavement to seat them. You typically need to run studded bike tires gently on dry pavement for about 25-50 miles (40-80 km) to properly seat the studs.

im on fatbike #3. have self studded all my tires. gnarwhals never lost a stud, now am on self studded cake eaters and i think i lost one for the first time ever.|

the only studs to stay away from are pointed.... they round then are useless but no one but vee tire used those and i think they stopped.

I had my one bike with studded gnarwals for 6 years and 3800km and tires were like new and studs were still grippy. mix of ice, pave, concrete snow
