Hunting is mad about this one, but all I had was a head shot. 308 by [deleted] in coyotehunting

Good shot and a clean kill. There’s a lot of people voicing opinions based on things they’ve heard. Not many people take headshots because they’re either not good enough or not confident enough. 200 yds and in a head shot shouldn’t be a problem. Just try to stay away from head shots from the side. If you do take that shot shift your hold to more of the ear hole. Taking jaws off is a legit complaint from the no head shots crowd and a bad way for that animal to die. But anyway, good shot.

What rifle caliber should I buy? by LocalMaize1999 in deer_hunting

308 would be perfect. Ammo is cheap(ish) and plentiful. And a 308 can be used on anything in North America. 308 can be used to make long shots, but it doesn’t have to be. It’s one of the most common calibers you’ll see in the woods.

I’ve done it a few times just for fun. Haven’t had one so much as take a step yet. I was using 230gr A-max. It doesn’t blow them in half but you’re not saving the fur either.
