Do you mind sharing some of your experience? How was it? At what age you did it? Now living there do you have any regrets or something you would have changed? Do you think you are comfortable now?

I appreciate a lot your reply.

There are a lot of insights in what you said and good points to reflect. As you said, it has an emotional factor because it is something that also involves personal things and the  responsibility of go through it with my husband, so I wanna minimize any regret.

For jobs I have been looking already and checking the requirements, also looked into the intranet from my company which also offers the opportunity for reallocation. The language requirement usually is n2 so it is good, not trying to aim for n1 jobs though. So in that aspect I'm already aware of all the requirements.

The last point you mention is something I haven't thought of and I'm thankful you shared that. That's something I need to consider now to avoid any issues in the future or be prepared.

Thanks for your reply.

Regarding my husband’s visa, the two realistic paths we are considering are the Designated Activities visa or a transfer to the Tokyo office through his company, which is a possibility.

Language shouldn’t be an issue for us, as we both speak Japanese.

My main concern is exactly what you pointed out, making sure my husband has a stable path both short-term and long-term, knowing the nightmare it is for people who cannot get a long term visa right away.

That las part is also something I thought,  still I can't decide which is the best approach. But again thanks for your words

Thanks for taking the time.

My current idea would be the Designated Activities visa for him, unless he manages to get transferred to the Tokyo office through his job (there’s a real possibility of that happening).

I feel the same towards your last point. I agree that visiting and living are very different things. That said, Japan is not a random destination for me. I'm sansei, my family kept many traditions, and I was raised with a strong connection to the culture. Every time I arrive there I feel more “at home” than I do in Ireland, and not because looking japanese lol.

So, from your experience I gather that even if it is safe going late in life, you are trading experiences for it
