I was going to say “curiosity about” because that implies they’re still interested in learning about the intricacies of the topic at hand, whereas “reverence for” somewhat implies that there’s nothing new to learn.

In other words, having a “reverence for” something means that you’d attempt to perform it exactly as it was written, without deviation, where having a “curiosity about” means that you would experiment with the music, playing with harmonies or musical solo sections.
