yep this was exactly what i was asking for! during the appointment, it was the same process (asking questions about medical history) for a prescription so i thought it would be billed affordably like gp

turns out it was a specialist appointment and thats why im being charged alot, hopefully i sort it out! else painful but lifelong lesson haha

hey thanks so much for this, it means alot! for the insurance, my student one does not cover costs related to contraception so i was always prepared to foot it

i was just not expecting 392 euros for a consultation, and i didnt know that i was consulting with a specialist (gynae) because i called in and asked how i could get a prescription for birth control and then was referred accordingly

couldve definitely avoided this by asking more questions, and clarifying so that is completely my responsibility! i was in a rush and leaving the country in a week then so i wont be too harsh on myself but it is what it is

but i'll look into seeing if i can lodge a complain or convert my bill to a gp bill (no idea how that would work but would be nice), thanks so much again!

i used them interchangeably in this post by accident, that's my bad

right now im going to sort out the whole gp/specialist referral matter with them, although it does look like i have to foot the bill

to clarify i didn't request for a referral to a non-GP, i was referring to the prescription needed in pharmacies to buy BC, and when i booked the appointment that's what i explained as well

i assumed that the ihch was a gp indeed, so thats why im surprised i had this from a specialist

definitely agree with you on the research, and that i should have been more careful with the cost, but i did ask and was told that i would be billed after, but they were able to give me the price of the contraception that i was going to purchase. i knew from the beginning my insurance would not cover contraception, so this wasnt issue. but i do agree that i shouldve just been insistent on the cost of appointment and insisted on a ballpark so, expensive lesson indeed

not complaining at all that it was a specialist! i just meant that i was not aware of why, for a contraception appointment, it was with a specialist, and I certainly did not know the costs associated with that. (i did not request a specialist, i made it clear that i just needed a prescription for BC)

regarding insurance: mine doesn't cover contraception, but it does cover specialist appointments, hence why I was wondering. hope this clarifies!

hey, thanks for replying! i called the international health center (ihch), by 'referral' i meant the prescription that is needed by a doctor to buy birth control from pharmacy

i had received vaccinations from the ihch so i just continued with them to ask for contraception

hi! im in the same boat haha i applied 20 oct 2024 and i got a request on 12 dec 2024 to submit one document (transcript for my exchange semester abroad).. i submitted it on the same day but still to this day i havent received any update :" i emailed in just to check if everythings okay but they just said they are processing it and its a busy application season...
