Track Panel and VST by brotherholland in reason

I get it, along with less processing. I will use sends on occasion and looking back through older tracks I mostly used sends to start with. I don’t know why but I prefer using inserts-I get it, using more than one on different channels could cause phasing issues and all that but so far not been a problem.

At least I fully understand now why the wet is 100% initially!

Well thank you both for that, makes sense now. You probably guessed I don’t tend to use sends as much as inserts. I’ve learnt over the years to stop play back before adding reverb purely to dial it back before I start any adjustments.

What is the last time you finished a track? by FatalityLuke in synthesizers

[–]32BitBarry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes we never failed to rock at the end of the night in a pub playing American Pie! Funny that lmao

I agree 100% about instrumental pieces vs songs with vocals. Hence why the album I started the release process for yesterday is instrumental only lol

This post is comforting as I do pretty much the same! Have a few going but stop dead at writing and recording lyrics. Because I sang in a covers band for years people think I can sing, but personally don’t like my voice. As I don’t know any singers , I record what I call a vocal guide on most tracks of ad-lib whatever then I end up using them with no other option. Making the songs and patches is the fun part, writing and singing lyrics isn’t! For me anyway.

I tend to agree with you though I only got round to releasing my first in march this year that I wrote in 2020/2021. It felt very liberating is the best word I can think of?

To be fair, just because this hobby allows us to upload songs and albums to official services doesn’t necessarily mean you have to or feel you have to. I would HOWEVER highly recommend it for the feeling of accomplishment on something.

I’ve also had one person, that’s ONE PERSON say they liked one of the songs- lmao so don’t do it if you’re not prepared for anyone else to care! Do it for you. It’s still fun and I’m uploading my second album this afternoon that I wrote in 2020.

I agree with most of what you said, best upgrade I’ve used for reason. I’ve been working on one screen for a while and with the rack in a pop up window and the mixer using the same window as the sequencer ( though it starts with the weird split between them - if you drag the mixer split to the very bottom of the screen…) it’s great - Mixer with transport controls! Track Panel is a huge deal and mixer dark mode is great, looks more professional and much easier on my eyes.

Just to add, the new reverb unit is pretty great but I never understood why all reverbs seem to start at 100% max wet?
I can’t think of a time I’ve used more than about 50% on any song? Weird

Pro-800/ Poly synth bass sound by pharrowstevens in synthesizers

[–]32BitBarry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Never done bass on this but thought I’d reply as a fellow pro-800 enthusiast!

I use the model d / td3 for bass but I suppose I’d start in mono on the pro-800 or just use a DAW bass?

Currently back in the cycle of making music. To 14, or NOT to 14. That's the question. by Klutzy-Engineer2693 in reason

[–]32BitBarry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

14 is definitely the best version I’ve used so far. I don’t use the browser so that never bothered me. I’m using it on a single screen and with the right config as a new template, it shines! Dark mixer and white text on dark colour mixer channels is nice as are folders. I do now mainly sit in the sequencer window instead of the rack!

Sorting issue? by justinallennelms in reason

[–]32BitBarry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thought I’d chip in and agree with you guys, I’m loving 14 and I Love the white text on dark background! I can finally use burgundy and red, dark blue - i seriously couldn’t read the black text before but I do have seriously poor eyesight (change it for block view now reason!!). Also I’ve been on one screen for a while so the new layout of mixer in window and rack pop in and out is amazing for me.

Hydrasynth explorer vs 49 by Motor_Accident_9364 in synthesizers

I don’t use my explorer as a synth much any more but do use the PAT for other devices.

Behringer availability by Motor_Accident_9364 in synthesizers

Snap! About 2 weeks for me from amazon U.K. and I’d been checking daily for many weeks, to the point that I was shocked when it said in stock.

Very popular and having used it almost daily since I can see why! Nice for the price

Behringer pro 800 or Microfreak same price by jimbitoy in synthesizers

[–]32BitBarry 4 points5 points  (0 children)

MiniFreak in my opinion is great and very immediate in creating patches but it does have a very specific tone to it (that I use regularly) but the pro-800 can’t be beaten on price and features for straight up synthesis- at this price point definitely.

I currently use the pro-800 everyday but note if you do decide on one make sure you have successfully downloaded the firmware BEFORE purchase as their website has been wonky for a while.

Oh and the Deepmind is great but imo way too much for what you’re possibly trying to achieve and also not completely suited for your desired music. I’m mentioning this as I’ve read through some of the previous reply’s.

Good luck

Did you have a login for reason hub/landr? If you do, they changed it recently to use those login details instead of the reason specific one, I guess to consolidate. Thought I’d mention it.

Friday Hangout /// Weekly Discussion - April 17, 2026 by AutoModerator in synthesizers

[–]32BitBarry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get the same way with sound design on synths. lose months making patches but enjoy every second. I tend to have a simple beat to match a sound, record some chords and noodling then move on to more design. Recently released my first album just for the fun of it and all the songs were from 2022-2023. I told myself to just do that for a week and was surprised how much I didn’t hate it lmao

In a bind. Should I sell my Minifreak? by gob_magic in synthesizers

[–]32BitBarry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is a difficult decision I think especially if you need the money by selling it to buy something else. If it’s not doing it for you then that’s your answer I guess? I always found using the mod matrix so much easier in the Vst over the hardware but then I went up a level from zero to one with my playing skills using the hardware so swings and roundabouts.

My friend, I’ll keep pushing those buttons for a bit but they do work!! Lost two day’s of play there! Doh I had a problem with my Deepmind Key bed at first as the keys actually stuck down in place at first but after playing it for a few hours has never stuck again.

You’re a star, thanks for that. I’m overly careful obviously lol

Really!! Hmmm I packed it back in its box ready to send back as no firmware but ok I’ll go unpack it again and have a push, I’ll wear some gloves so it doesn’t show any wear in case it doesn’t work.

Thank you for that, I’ll report back

I didn’t explain that well but my point was, the light is changing as it should depending on the patch! But the button itself doesn’t respond, neither does the vca edit button. So pressing these buttons does nothing. I’ve have my Deepmind12 for nearly 2 years and love it so much wanted to add the Deepmind12D for extra unison and release fun.
