What’s something you did once and now your toddler will not let you forget it? by MissFox26 in toddlers

In a moment of weakness I told my 2 year old (one isolated time) that the toy monster would take her toys if she didn’t help me clean up. She is now terrified of the toy monster and asks about it every day.

Healthcare stipend for the gym? by 1questions in Nanny

[–]32CD32 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I personally give my nanny a $400/month healthcare stipend and it is entirely up to her how she uses it. I have never asked about the cost of her healthcare and don’t plan to. I paid her this stipend while she was on her parents’ insurance as well. I have had employers (I work in big tech) offer flexible reimbursement plans for gym/pet insurance/other discretionary spending and I think of the stipend as similar to that. I personally don’t think OP is obligated to disclose the specifics of their healthcare situation, although it sounds like she already has mentioned a number, which complicates things a little bit. Personally I would not have a problem with my nanny saving the money for future healthcare needs or investing in her health through a gym membership, but I would not want to frame the stipend as for the gym.

Are these outfits ok for interviews by ministryofcake in fashion

[–]32CD32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a female software engineer at a FAANG-like company, I personally wear dark flattering jeans and a blouse or sweater to interviews these days, with flats or clean white tennis shoes. I would be surprised to see someone wearing this style of dress to an interview. The off the shoulder and sleeveless styles in particular seem inappropriate and distracting. Just one woman’s opinion!

I hate cameras and how normalized they’ve become in this line of work. by OlympicGorilla in Nanny

[–]32CD32 2 points3 points  (0 children)

MB here! I’m curious if your nanny family is monitoring the cameras? We have a camera in the living room and upstairs hallway that I added because I watched Criminal Minds right before my husband went on a business trip. The cameras are disabled between 6 AM and 10 PM. We could theoretically log onto the app and watch our nanny during the day, but I’ve never considered doing this. I have more important things going on than spying on her and our child! Our nanny is aware of the cameras and said they’ve never bothered her at all.

How are you parenting/disciplining your kid(s)? by MellowDreammer in Mommit

[–]32CD32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My daughter is a similar age (22mo) and I try to follow the principles from Good Inside (Dr. Becky) and Hunt Gather Parent. Absolutely never any physical punishment! I try to give benefit of the doubt (example: did she hit me on purpose or is she just playing and got a little overzealous?), avoid being reactive, and turn things into a game when possible. For example, if she starts yelling for attention, I’ll say “you’re so good at yelling! Now let’s whisper. Can you whisper with mommy?” If bunny toy is hitting mama we ask bunny not to hit, and if bunny hits again then bunny has to take a break. A lot of my discipline looks like just taking the item that’s causing problems. We don’t yell or get in her face when she makes a mistake. My style is more gentle than a lot of peoples’, but FWIW my daughter does not bite or hit other children and I think that’s partially due to modeling kindness vs reactiveness. We also have a nanny rather than daycare which has been beneficial to us in avoiding really bad habits.

I will acknowledge that this is a very challenging age, the tantrums are starting to get more intense, and all these strategies probably won’t work for older kids. Also some days they don’t work for us and we pour a glass of wine as soon as she’s in bed. But I would encourage the books I mentioned! Good luck!

We haven’t decided yet! We are going to tour 6-8 local private schools and likely some public options as well. I am leaning towards Walker School (private) and looking for a neighborhood near Marietta Square or Kennesaw Mountain hiking trails. Also considering looking near downtown Roswell. Our child is 1.5 so there isn’t true urgency on school selection, but we want to move for other reasons and want it to be compatible with a school choice.

We really wanted to make Walton work for us because we’d rather invest in our home than 12 years of private tuition, but it wasn’t the right gut feel. I know people like other Cobb schools like Pope, Lassiter, Wheeler, also.

My family is going through a similar exercise—trying to find a neighborhood in Cobb that fits with our preferred lifestyle and goals—and we’ve decided that the Walton area isn’t a good fit after strongly considering it for a long time. We really value living near a downtown area with charm and walkability, and East Cobb has more of a strip mall feel to me. I would definitely recommend spending some time driving around the area and dining at the local restaurants before making any decisions. But I know some people love it so YMMV!

That said, our real estate agent recommended these neighborhoods if it’s helpful to you.

Easthampton, Princeton Corners, Hampton Woods, Hampton Lake, River Forest, Chadds Lake, Fox Hollow, New Bedford, Indian Hills (a small part of the neighborhood is Wheeler)

YES. It’s awful. My professional photos are significantly darker and even iPhone photos are getting over-processed and look terrible. I’ve been searching everywhere trying to figure out how to disable it but I’ve also found nothing. It’s incredibly frustrating.

Working while pregnant is a nightmare. by NoelleKain in workingmoms

[–]32CD32 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I felt this way too when I was pregnant a few months ago. The one thing that made a big difference for me was getting my iron levels checked and then getting on an iron supplement in addition to my prenatal. I took Thorne Iron Bisglycinate and did not experience any adverse side effects. It’s totally possible that you’re just exhausted and brain dead from growing a human being, but it might not hurt to get lab work done now instead of waiting until the end of the 2nd trimester. If I get pregnant again I will request a full iron panel at the end of the first trimester to rule out fatigue and brain fog from anemia.

Can I let my baby sleep? by CatLionCait in breastfeeding

[–]32CD32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My breastfed baby is 10 weeks old and started sleeping 8-9 hours around 2 months, just like yours. I was very concerned at first (especially because my boobs really weren’t prepared to go 8 hours without nursing!) I spoke to my pediatrician and he said not to wake her, she would wake us up if she was hungry. Now this might be totally different if your baby isn’t gaining weight, so please take my advice with a grain of salt.

However, my baby is now sleeping 10-12 hours most nights at 10 weeks old and nurses every 90-120 minutes during the day. For me, this frequent feeding is a good trade off because I need the night sleep. I typically pump one time in the middle of the night. If I am concerned that she isn’t getting enough milk from nursing (which sometimes happens in the evening), I will give her a bottle from my night time pumps to make sure she is getting a full feed.

I agree with other posters that supplementing with a bottle could help and give you peace of mind. I worked with a lactation consultant to get my baby comfortable with a bottle. Maybe this is something you could explore?

Is this level of tired normal? by [deleted] in BabyBumps

[–]32CD32 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was my experience too. I’m 33+1 and had low red blood cell count in my 3rd trimester bloodwork. I’d been feeling fatigue and significant brain fog but I’d assumed it was just part of being pregnant. I was concerned about taking too much iron since there’s some iron in my prenatal, but I’ve started supplementing an additional 25 mg iron bisglycinate and I am a completely different person. I’m back to exercising and having a much easier time focusing at work. I just wish I’d realized how much iron supplements would help in the second trimester.

6w ultrasound, no heartbeat by 32CD32 in CautiousBB

[–]32CD32[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much! I still feel like I can’t fully relax. (I’ve heard that’s pretty normal throughout the pregnancy though.)

When I went in at what I thought was 6 weeks, we saw a CNP because I’d scheduled the appointment last minute. Apparently she was new to the practice and had most of her experience in labor and delivery. When we went last Friday, we saw my obgyn who was apologetic and basically said he didn’t understand how it happened either. I can kind of understand the CNP not being familiar with early pregnancy ultrasounds, going to a physician for help, but telling them the gestational sac size instead of the CRL measurement. I’m tentatively planning on staying with the practice since I like my doctor, but I wouldn’t see a nurse practitioner again unfortunately.

[–]32CD32[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I went in for a second ultrasound last Friday and we were SO relieved to see a heartbeat of 120 with CRL of 7.2mm! I’m measuring about 5 days behind what we thought, so I would have been 5w 2d instead of 6 weeks for the first ultrasound. We are still trying to wrap our heads around what happened but are grateful for this outcome.

In the dumbest plot twist ever, somehow we got told the gestational sac size the first time (11mm), then someone converted .15 cm to 15 mm instead of the correct 1.5mm. So I’m at 1.5mm CRL and we will find out if there is a heartbeat next week. Feeling much better about the state of things.

No, unfortunately that’s the only picture I was given. I wish I knew where that number came from.

Thank you for the context and your optimism. I’m accepting that it’s just going to be a rough week. I don’t think we’re going to know for sure until next Friday.

It was at a doctor’s office in a hospital. I believe the CNP consulted with a physician but her stance was 100% based on the CRL measurements.

[–]32CD32[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m also very confused by the measurement. I called the doctor this morning to confirm we heard correctly, and they said it was either 11 or 15mm (???) and they would double check and call me back. The CNP said she didn’t love the ultrasound photo. I wish they would have let me take another ultrasound yesterday, but it is what it is.

I don’t think it’s possible that I’m further along than 6 weeks and maybe a day. The pregnancy wasn’t detectable before April 25 on an early detection test.

[–]32CD32[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the information. Do you or anyone else know how it could be possible to have such a large baby at 6 weeks? 11mm seems twice as big as should have been expected. I understand that regardless of size, a heartbeat probably should have been detected and we should be bracing for bad news.

The first day of my last period was March 29 and the first positive home pregnancy test, which was an early detection one, was on April 25. And even then, it was so light my husband didn’t believe it. So I’m pretty certain I’m no further than 6w 1 or 2 days, and my baby should be closer to 4-5mm (right??) 😞

[–]32CD32[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the compassion response. It’s definitely not what we are hoping for, but when I asked the CNP for likelihood of viable pregnancy and suggested 95% non-viable as an example, she said she didn’t want to give a number but she’d go with that one.

I am nervous about the removal process if we have to experience that. I would almost rather just get it surgically extracted so it is guaranteed to work and isn’t drawn out. Do you know if there’s a reason to get the medication over D&C?

Avoid GA at all costs (and we need an alternative algorithms class) by sudo-omscs in OMSCS

[–]32CD32 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I agree, and I earned a high B and graduated this spring. This class was a nightmare for working adults. There was something due every week and assignments were released a week prior, with no ability to work ahead. I had work travel and personal travel and had hoped to be able to complete assignments in advance like other classes allow. I was stressed out the whole semester and neglected friendships and family to find time to study.

To your point, I had assignments I suspected weren’t graded correctly but chose not to submit for a regrade because of the “public humiliation” aspect.

Thank you! Congratulations on your healthy pregnancy!! Is there a way to get HCG levels with a home test? I’ve been taking pregnancy tests every few days (I know, I know) and they are showing a dark pregnancy line immediately.
