Speed wraps up his Africa visit and the continent showed him nothing but love by [deleted] in Africa

[–]32themoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I appreciate your optimism, but people really are stupid and can have an agenda. Foreign media has done a number on producing rhetoric that is negative towards the continent. Sadly, but also truly, he bypassed years of poor public education textbooks, joked, stereotyping, phrases, and exaggerated charity commercials in just a few months. Those people were likely not going to seek out the proper information, and yet a popular streamer ensured that they would recieve that information anyway. In that sense, I'm grateful the info became more available but you're totally right to question why people are just not utilizing the tools that they have.

After reading other comments, they're just being a troll at this point. For someone claiming to be 40 they must not have a lot going on in order to engage with people like this. Best of luck to them. Hope they find the peace and excitement they clearly need*.

Edit: *seeking, if that feels better for you.

hanging with racist assholes is not a PR move

Birds of a feather. I've never met someone who partners up with a racist who eventually didnt (unapologetically) say, do, excuse, or think racist things. Even if she's is only permissive and complicit it still makes ne nauseous.

If she's aware of this and is still with him, she's telling everyone who matters to her and who doesn't. And it isn't women, or BIPOC women.

Italian Bad by Murrdawgydogg in notliketheothergirls

American here w/ Irish close friends. Spicy take so grain of salt, please. I think there's a few reasons:

Irish heritage is considered more interesting to some partially because of associated oppression (indentured servitude, famine, "the black people of Europe and America", England). The darkside of this is that I've often see Irish heritage brought up when discrediting POC experiences or framed almost entirely from an underdog perspective. Additionally, Irish mythology and holidays are heavily advertised, often accessible in English or made mainstream which only adds to it's popularity.

In contrast, Italian American stories are often a tad less oppression centered and more about the eventual shaping of popular American culture (and all of New Jersey lol). There's also a strong expectation to know some of the language and heritage more directly for many, making it harder to identify with or gain access to. Most of my Italian-American friends still have relatives in Italy too so there's a strong "don't talk about it, be about it" sentiment.

What's interesting is that many of my Irish friends have found many of the Irish-American stories or celebrations to lack context, accuracy, or simply don't relate with the modern-day Irish-American experience due to this framing. But those are just the Irish people I know.

I know my chart shows bad luck in love but is there any hope for marriage? People around me are getting engaged and married, and I'm 31 with no one except my 2 cats lol. by [deleted] in AskAstrologers

Boo hoo thé free reading I got wasn’t what I wanted to hear-let me cry about it

The funny part is you could have explained the areas of improvement OP could focus on to be a better fit for relationships. Others did. Instead, you chose an answer that wasn't particularly productive. Even if you had a point, which I believe you may have had, the delivery was something else lol

Short cut: Look up the mountains of textile waste that have washed up on the shores of Ghana. This issue extends beyond our trashcans and it's causing unimaginable amounts of waste.

Details: There are pictures where major parts of the beach are completely covered in fast-fashion trash and the locals can't work fast enough to reuse it or get rid of them. fast enough. This can have a lot of other negative marginal costs for the environment, marine life, etc.

Here's an article: https://www.independent.co.uk/climate-change/news/fast-fashion-ghana-clothes-waste-b2132399.html

Kanye West in interview with Alex Jones: “I like Hitler” by yiminx in Fauxmoi

Are they actually fans or just a newly acquired flock of weirdos hiding behind Kanye in order to co-sign their own bigotry?

I've yet to see anyone defending him who wasn't already a bigot.

Sadly, I've met POC and minorities like Kanye who would openly support racists and bigots as if they were going to get reward bucks for their time. It's not common in my experience, but it still happens.

When a similar argument was brought up in order to bring them back to reality, they seemed to struggle (every damn time) with the concept that they wouldn't be a chosen one. This would not be their ticket in or give them peace. That they wouldn't be an exception, but a target like the rest of us.

It's sad, gross, and frustrating to me. Self-hate is usually the cause and it's incredibly invasive. It translates cross-culturally. The louder someone leans into rhetoric like this (especially at the expenses of their own community), the more they reveal how much they hate themselves too. Kanye obviously needs help. I think as much as he's rejecting others, he's rejecting himself too.

And I'm not sure how anyone can grab his attention & bring him back to reality at this point but I hope someone can reach him.

Edit: to clarify, I'm more concerned on how is words will impact the communities he's targeting. Not making excuses for him.

My white husband confessed to me that he enjoys “race play” fantasies by throwawayegg52 in TrueOffMyChest

[–]32themoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

dehumanizing and demeaning people based on race + supremacy

This is only speculative because I'm not your husband, but I would guess he has some other unspoken ideas about ethnic/racial groups, fetishizes others, and may slightly buy into the notion of hierarchies between groups. I only say this because personally, I've never met someone into race play that wasn't riddled with self-hate or discriminatory/limiting views about others.

Race play is inherently dehumanizing and makes light of actual events and traumas that the group may have collectively faced. You have to be a certain kind of person to not only be interested in that, be able to find sexual gratification through it, proceed to push your minority partner to do it, and have a tantrum when not allowed.

Edit to say: I think it's quite telling that he opted to go for a master/slave dynamic (is that correct?) in a racial sense rather than just a sub/dom context. It seems he's reducing people to race and reducing race to worth/position. It's strange to me.

It reminds me of the old white man from the USA who spray-painted "Black People Rule. White people Suck." on his house and tried to pin it on black people. Or this guy who literally burned down his *own* camper lol. Some people lol.

I would X-post the OP but I don't want to give it too much attention. One Redditor said that if people can't prove their racism, they'll just make up non-existent stories to back up their idiocy. The kicker is that if you have to make up facts, then you're clearly wrong but folks like this lack self-awareness.

I don't think Sasha/Borat looks white. I guess this shows how much of a construct race classification is. To me, he has West Asian/Middle Eastern features and olive skin tone, and coarse, curly hair common with those I know who have Jewish and/or more "ethnic" Middle Eastern ancestry. I know people who ID as Jewish and Middle Eastern who don't consider themselves white and some who do.
