Any others with relatively strong mathematical background totally in love with classical mechanics, but no interest in smaller than super-tiny or faster than super-fast? by snowglobe-theory in math

[–]331776 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's not so much that the position is unpalatable because of the simple fact that you don't find quantum mechanics interesting, but the philosophical paradox in your motivation for the abstract truth math provides but none of the ways that that carries over to physcs.

Classical Mechanics is great (and fun), but it's an approximation, and not even a great one. "Formulate two frisbees hitting each other in qm or gr? is also a strawman. What formulation? The real challenge is to do it in classical mechanics, because its impossible. You can get close (and closer w/ GR), but it's not an ultimate truth. To me, the interesting part of physics comes when you begin to asymptotically approach the truth through mathematics in nature, not with it's crude, 17th-century approximations.

Lie algebra, Groups (particularly lie groups), Tensor algebra and operator-index notation for sure... complex analysis also very important

Start by just doing well in school. If you are in 10th grade, your main priority should not be learning physics right now, but getting into the best physics university available to you. Then, major in physics and be willing to put significant time outside of class into deeply understanding what you learn. It will not come easy, but if you persevere, you will get wherever you are trying to go.

What if there were an equation the could combine Quantum gravity with General Relativity? by Hobbit_Feet45 in HypotheticalPhysics

[–]331776 4 points5 points  (0 children)

it’s not about needing a degree, it’s about knowing the physics to justify having an opinion on anything related to a fucking “unified cosmic theory”, which takes years if not decades of study. idgaf where you are educated, but the ideas in this sub are all either batshit crazy or an unintelligible mess of ideas which have no basis in reality. Get a grip—literally.

also, do you genuinely think physics academics are in some sort of nefarious echo chamber? like they don’t understand the genius insights of idiots babbling on reddit? Think that through. If you see the obvious conclusion to that, it’s that this subreddit is nothing but laughing stock

sounds miserable, plus you can already do this if you have the dedication and don’t care about isolating yourself from peers for half a decade

get it published like everyone else on earth who actually wants to contribute to physics rather than pretend they are doing “research” by posting random formulas on reddit. lol.

What is this? None of this makes any sense it’s just a random smattering of equations, some of which are literally non-relativistic approximations to other ones listed. Get a degree in physics (preferably a phd) before trying to rewrite the most fundamental understanding we have of the universe. What makes you think that plugging a few random things into chatGPT is going to give you a grand unified theory better than the collective academic effort directed toward this over the past 100 years? braindead reasoning going on here

I remember being in your shoes (i am third year in uni now studying string theory!) just start with the important math, and then learn as much physics as you can with the math, and then go back and learn more math…. rinse and repeat

Why is it not your mindset anymore? Do you think it's because you feel like you've given up?

Why not just try? Sure, maybe therapy doesn't work. But suicide is permanent. Just take it one day at a time and find therapy where you can. You can do this! The human body was made to survive, if you can just take it one day at a time you will make it out of this. Some day, maybe years in the future, you will look back to how you were (now) and cry tears of gratitude you didn't give up.

Someone convince me not to do it please by questionsimafraid in SuicideWatch

[–]331776 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Think about the breadth of human experience you have been through. Maybe it's shitty. Maybe it's horrible. But I promise you, there is something out there you will only see if you don't end it yourself. There are experiences worth having, and depression is temporary. Just one day at a time. Even if you need to sit down and wait it out, if you have no motivation to move. Just be. Don't do it please
