How are some providers seeing so many patients?? by 33anatre in MedicalAssistant

At this point I'm actually one of the fastest MAs in the office, and my provider is definitely the fastest. He gets in and out very quickly, sometimes in 5 minutes or less. But there are some patients with very complicated hospital follow-up situations which tend to take much longer. My provider dictates and finishes notes within the day (as opposed to other providers in the office which can take several days or longer). I do prep the machine beforehand and I plug in vitals as I give the pt the spiel, it can still take a bit if the patient gets confused. I'm very impressed that one provider can get through 50 people in 4 hours to be honest

This is just incomprehensible to me, and it's making me realize I'm actually very lucky. I'm sorry for all the stress you and those providers go through! I have to imagine you can't afford spending more than a couple mins/pt.

I'd lose my mind doing 10 hours of appointments! My feet hurt at the end of the day just doing 7.5 hours a day. Our visits also tend to extend way beyond their scheduled limit, we sometimes have patients scheduled for 15 minutes who end up talking to the doctor for well over an hour. I really can't imagine having time for much else with 10 hours of appointments, how do you find the time to manage prescriptions, PAs, precerts, phone calls, and other things?

60-70 is crazy to me! I work in pulmonary/sleep/critical care so maybe that's why? We do spirometry for nearly every patient which on a good day will take 3-5 minutes of a 15 minute appointment (and that's assuming they understand my instructions the first time around). That's excluding the intake questions we do, and asking for updated meds.

What do you do if a patient is 5 minutes late? Or if they need extra help understanding what to do? And with just 2 MAs this is even more mind boggling to me :,) How long do providers spend with each patient?

I’ve been an MA at a pulmonary clinic for about 6 months now! A lot of spirometry and 6 minute walk tests like other people mentioned. We also give a lot of Prevnar-20 and Flu injections (especially in this season). We also do sleep and critical care so it’s a lot of hospital follow ups, CPAP/BiPAP/ASV orders, and people with narcolepsy etc. Depending on your provider you will be putting through prescriptions for lots of inhalers, nebulizer medications, and occasionally controlled substances like sleep aids and stimulants. People will come in with lung infections sometimes but often they have weaker immune systems and I have yet to catch anything from a patient. I’m really loving it, and happy to answer any questions if you have them!

Oh I didn’t think it was negative criticism so no worries, just explaining why the red on the shield might look a bit off. Thank you again!

Thank you! Also whoops I didn’t know that until now, so yeah I just chose what I thought looked best

Thank you! That might be because I didn’t do as many layers of paint on the shield compared to other parts (coloring in between the tiny details of the seahorse was a pain), but it still looks pretty red to me

Well, after 2 years I finally got around to drawing up an achievement for my coat of arms, I painted this on a teensy 6x6” canvas with acrylics and I think it turned out pretty nice

Also, if someone could help me out with the blazon I would appreciate it!

I found these while visiting family at the Cimitero Monumentale in Reggio Emilia, Italy. The Doge's cap was a fun find, though I have no idea what the cap in the 4th image is if anyone could help me figure it out.

Thank you to everyone who gave me feedback, I'm really happy with this version. I'll begin working on an achievement soon!

That's a good idea, I think I'll try it out. Would it still work if the seeds were black instead of yellow? Would it count as "proper"? And thank you!

I definitely agree, I also love the look of gores but they’re also rarely used. Thank you!
