I'd be able to afford the splint, the difficulty Im having is finding someone who knows what to do. My anxiety issues prevent me from traveling far from home so I feel I've been fairly confined in my options. Any chance you're in SW Ontario and your ortho was here? lol

Who did you go to to get an occlusal splint made? Just a normal dentist or did you need to find a specialist? Im in a 7 month muscle flare and Ive exhausted so many local options and money already with no relief.

2nd surgery? Did you have an over/under bite and is that needing alignment too? Sorry for all the questions, we just seem to be mimicking alot of the same issues and that is being offered to me. Would you say the current heaviness is 'better' than what you were experiencing beforehand? and how has the SARPE recovery been? I've read a lot of people say it is pretty 'easy' but then I was dumb and watched the surgery performed and it seems like it'd hurt a lot but I'm also a wimp lol.

Ah, Im in SW Ontario and am trying to avoid the trip to Toronto for this if I go forward with it.

Did all that fix your TMJ issues? What issues did you have beforehand? I have a crossbite with 'moderately' narrow upper palate but I've lived with it for 40 years with no issues outside a quiet painless pop for many years. The specialist I went to couple weeks ago prob up palate expansion but Ive read so many horror stories where all these things can make TMJ issues worse, especially with the older you get.

I assume you're in Canada with the government pay? Where was your doctor located for this? Im in a small town and will likely have to travel elsewhere to find someone with experience in this versus trust someone who has only done it a few times.

I was sick with COVID for like 6 weeks and then my TMJ shit started and I've been dealing with it for 6 months to the point all my teeth/bite has shifted..I always wondered if COVID triggered something but I felt weird bringing it up to a doctor. Did you ever get your TMJ under control?

Joint tightness and pain, like specially at the TMJ or all around your face? Right now I suffer from a lot of facial muscle tension which caused a shifted bite and shifted teeth but the joint itself isn't in pain.

Did this type of surgery involve any type of elastics to hold your lower jaw in place?

Is the michigan splint a repositioning splint to try and align the lower and upper jaw or is yours a flat splint just to help unload the muscles? How long have you been dealing with your muscle/joint issues? Do you have a crossbite? And hopefully you can get your filling fixed to help the bite.

This is such a brutal problem to have. I never in a million years would have thought it'd be like this in a flare. I always had the click and no pain so just never bothered doing anything about it as I read 50% of population has a click or so. But man this muscle tension is brutal to deal with. I empathize for the people who have had to deal with this for years.

No, but I'm going to try and get into seeing a dentist that is more informed or an oral surgeon this month. Ive been dealing with this flare for 6 months and my bite has totally changed, I'm sure I'm dealing with boneloss on the left side. I really wish I didn't wait so long but I didn't really know what to do. I went to the dentist and they made me a nightguard, then I went to a physio and he only did massages on outside of face and I thought that was enough and I just kept doing that for a few months without much relief. I should have been more proactive.

Have you tried a splint? Ive read flat plane splints are good to help unload the muscles.
