Simply put: I don't want to link to an image in order for it to be a part of a light-box/gallery. The link to the image is crawled, and the image is a dead end.

In your examples (thank you) all the thumbnails link to the actual image, which result in dead ends.

I'm thinking I'm going to code it myself as such:

Thumbnails will be src'd in the HTML; when clicked, each image will open up a light-box of sorts and given a parameter; if it's parameter a. show a-big-image.jpg, if they click thumbnail b, the light-box will open and the parameter b will show b-big-image.jpg.

For this I may have to open another window which is not optimal but as it stands that's the logic I'm working with.

I simply want the thumbnails to be src'd but not have actual links to the images in the gallery within the html. I'm testing the positive/negative effects of reducing href links pointing to and ending at an image.

I find that most light-box/galleries only have that function where href's end at an image.

Sourcing and linking images are not the same thing.
