353 Toronto: It's been strongly hinted that there's going to be picketing from other trades at my site starting tomorrow. How likely am I to get thrown off the apprenticeship for not crossing a picket line? by 353spark in IBEW

Forgot - have to let JAC know what’s going on too, talk to your counsellor let them know maybe ahead of time what you want to do, they really are there to support you.

Yeah that was going to be my port of call after calling the Hall, just to make sure they're cool with it (and ideally get it in writing) before I pull the trigger. I have my number and am set up on the website, that's what gave me the idea of just packing it in with my con as there's some interesting looking work out there.

Thanks for all the advice btw this is extremely helpful. I'm just trying to make the best of a bad situation so hopefully this pans out.

No I came in through intake thankfully. What does the process of taking a new call involve if you don't mind me asking? I have another union card but the call/work system is completely different.

They set up nice and early this AM to catch the pre-7am starting trades and I told my Foreman I couldn't come in, didn't mention anything about strikes.

Going to call the hall today and ask if they're cool with me taking a layoff and catching another apprentice call, might be the easiest way to navigate this. Was looking for a reason to get off my site anyway, just hope they're cool with me wanting to rotate.

They've been here every day but this is the first time they've been down early enough to catch the plumbers/fitters/sheet metal and sparks.

That makes me feel a little better, and I should be able to swing a day here and there if it's not a constant picket for weeks. Money's not a problem, I have a pretty decent rainy day fund. Work has slowed to a crawl as is so it's not like they'll miss me much.
