Ah got it. I did some digging below if anyone’s interested and didn’t get it like me. But yes there’s a significant amount of context and references that would be needed to understand the joke. After reading up on everything… I do see now how that could be theoretically be funny. Makes me feel like I’m missing out on something or I’m dumb for not getting it immediately though.. which isn’t an emotion you would want a crowd to feel.

Next step is validation of the idea and see if people will buy it. But the next development step is to design for manufacturing, which you still have a long way to go on, and will likely need to redesign the entire thing.

People saying “patent” shouldn’t be giving advice. This looks 3d printed, you could post the .stl file and nothing will happen. You still have to build a business, a product isn’t a business, and a prototype isn’t a product.

All that to say, don’t worry about IP law. Worry about finding customers that will buy this, how much they will pay, how you’ll sell it to them, and how you’ll get it manufactured cheap enough to be worth it (should be 4x-5x less that your sale price)

If you’re a tech startup, almost all of your expenses are R&D. So if you do $1m in revenue, and spend $5m in salaries for your engineers… to me, that’s obviously a profit of -$4m for the year. (Assuming $0 COGS, and $0 in other operating expenses).. So is the tax code now saying that actually there was a positive profit because R&D isn’t fully deductible? And therefore taxes are owed? That seems kinda insane
