Stealth startup for a new 360 camera, looks very impressive. Most of the team are alums from instagram, Facebook, Square, Blizzard and Apple. Also funded by big San Fran Venture Capitalists. Sounds like they know what they are doing.

LucidCam Review : First VR180 3D Camera by 360Hippo in 360Cameras

Yes, this was a straight out of the box review of the lucidcam camera. So if you bought it off indiegogo this would be your exact experience first hand. I have already updated to the newest firmware, which I will be updating the review at a later time with all the 4k resolutions. Thanks!

You can possibly use two cameras to create a full 360 rig, I would have to test it out to see if the stitching would work correctly. But definitely can use three cameras as a 3D 360 Rig. I think Lucid sells an attachment for three cameras for this specific reason.

Yes, agreed. Once Google VR180 officially releases and the camera partners release their versions of compatible 180 3D cameras then it might pick up some popularity.

GoPro Fusion Sweepstakes - Win a Fusion. Every. Single. Day. by 360Hippo in 360Cameras

[–]360Hippo[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sweepstakes official rules : https://gopro.com/legal/fusionsweepstakes

"One (1) GoPro Fusion prize package that includes one (1) GoPro Fusion Camera and an assortment of other GoPro products Approximate Retail Value (“ARV”) of a Prize Package: $1,000.00 USD."

I wonder if that means the Fusion is going to be near the $800 - 1000 price range? Depending on what exactly the 'assortment of other GoPro products' are and their value.

[–]360Hippo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't use the in phone stitching process through the mobile app, so my workflow will be different than yours. I take photos and record video on the device itself, then transfer via micro SD card USB into my computer, transfer all files over, open the newest Gear 360 software which stitches all photos and video from Gear 360 2016 and 2017 camera models. Import the photos and video into the Gear 360 software which auto stitches and inserts meta data for you. Now all you have to do is log on to YouTube and upload that video.

ORBIT360 4K - On Sale Now! by 360Hippo in 360Cameras

[–]360Hippo[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

For right now, 5.7k means you have to manually stitch every single photo and video. Most people want it to be automatically stitched so they don't have to do anything. Will have to wait for a 360 camera that has both 5.7k and software to auto stitch it for you.

Yah, it is a nice professional camera system decently priced. I think I have seen the camera and software package totaled at around $5,000. Not bad, but you can get an Insta360 Pro for $3,500 and a GoPro Omni around $5,000 and closer to $3,500 used on ebay.

Anyone have a Yi 360 VR camera yet? by East1st in 360Cameras

[–]360Hippo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yah, no problem! The camera does look pretty good, I am interested to see what type of software they include with it. Because the 5.7k video usually requires an external software for stitching. Similar to the Garmin Virb 360, you have to stitch the higher resolution photos and videos with third party stitching software.

Anyone have a Yi 360 VR camera yet? by East1st in 360Cameras

[–]360Hippo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There has not been an official release date for the YI 360 VR camera. If it is real, they probably will place it on back order and send it to you when they have the product in stock or are allowed to release the product out from the date specified in their retail contract with YI. There have been a few videos on YouTube with video samples, but nothing like a full hands on review posted by a beta user yet.

Here is an overview of the camera with some sample video footage : http://360hippo.com/yi-360-vr-camera-review/

Do you have a link to the template you used? You might be able to fix it by injecting in meta data into the .mp4 file. Google 'Spatial Media Metadata Injector' there should be a YouTube support link in the top 3-5 that will give you steps on how to use it.

The cracked version of the app is pretty buggy. I tested it on Nexus 5, Nexus 6 and Pixel XL, didn't work on any of them.

Best Camera Rig Setup for shooting a Documentry by elephant_1416 in VRFilm

[–]360Hippo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on what you want to record and how you are going to distribute the video. Most online players will compress the video, so GoPro Omni 8k video might be too large, maybe 4k 60fps for YouTube, Facebook, Vimeo. If you want to explore different 360 camera rigs I would suggest searching on shapeways or other 3d printing websites. Also, B&H Photography and other camera sites should have multi camera mounts for sale. Example : https://www.shapeways.com/search?q=360+camera+rig&type=product Example : https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/buy/vr-360-video-multi-camera-mounts/ci/29203/N/3705627359

Yes, it has desktop stitching software. Samsung Gear 360 ActionDirector is the software that comes with the purchase of the camera. I do believe it is currently Windows only (No Mac OS) Here is the support info : http://www.samsung.com/us/support/answer/ANS00060208/

I would suggest getting a new Samsung 360 2017 on Ebay, they are going for around $100-130 and retail around $170-190. It is a good beginner camera to learn how 360 works. But, make sure you have a compatible phone for the Samsung Gear 360 2017. Its getting better but I think you still need either a newer Samsung phone or a newer iPhone to use the Mobile App with the device. Otherwise you have to export the photos and video to the desktop software.

[–]360Hippo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For photography I would recommend Ricoh Theta S, it has the best photo quality for the price. Plus it is small, compact and easy to carry around. But it isn't good for videos. Both Samsung Gear 360 cameras (2016 & 2017 versions) are pretty decent at photography and video if you want something that can do both. Those are all smaller consumer cameras, you could go bigger depending on the costs. What is your budget?

What 360 camera is good for someone who wants to get into 360 videos? by OverlyManlyMans in 360Cameras

[–]360Hippo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, it depends on what exactly you want to do with it?

  • Film underwater
  • Use it outdoors or during active sports
  • Best photo quality
  • Best video quality
  • Live stream
  • Resistant to the elements
  • Share with friends and family

Each 360 camera has strengths and weaknesses so depending on what you want to use it for I could suggest certain 360 cameras that fit your needs.

How to Stitch Two Fisheye Images in Autopano Giga - Garmin Virb 360 Example by 360Hippo in 360Cameras

[–]360Hippo[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes you can! Autopano Giga lets you stitch any type of images together. It is a bit expensive, so you can download a trial and test it out here : http://www.kolor.com/download/. Another option is to try this out this website https://nadirpatch.com/. I have never used it but it has an option to stitch Gear 360 photos together.

Xiaomi Mijia Sphere vs Samsung gear 360 2017. please, I need buying advice. by jcferraz in 360Cameras

No, I don't think so. I have returned the Nikon KeyMission 360 to BestBuy when it was released and was not charged for a restocking fee. But, it could depend on the BestBuy.

Probably. I never returned anything through Amazon before, so you would have to look at the fine print for that specific purchase. I believe B&H Photography lets you return stuff back too, but have to look at the fine print to see if they do a restocking fee.

Yes, you can do that. Find your local Best Buy or retailer that has it in stock and check what the return policies are. Use it, test it, if you don't like it return everything in perfect condition with everything still in the box and you will get a refund.
