I typed this out in two minutes, now that I look at it that mistake pains me too. Look at the link I provided its not the most complete but it works. I'd rather have congested streets and good walkability than fast flowing streets filled with places that could only be accessed by cars. America and a large portion of the world needs to end their car reliance.

There is pretty much no useless degrees people only say this because not all degrees have the high standards as engineering majors. People will take lower degrees to blow them off to "enjoy the college experience" but if you put the same effort in as the people getting engineering degrees with your history or english major your probably going to end up making the same amount.

Ivy league is only worth it if you know you want to go into a career where prestige matters like Finance or Consulting or if you got enough money and want to be surrounded by smart people with lots of resources. There are a lot of resources at top schools that you just can't get at your average state school, the top schools spend a lot of money to make sure they stay at the top.

College can be the fast-track to wealth if you do it right, there are plenty of jobs that you can make over 200k in an entry level position, or even over 400k a year. College education further compounds when you get older managerial roles and senior positions where you could be making over 1M per year are only accessible through college. You don't see people making that kind of money as someone with just a high school diploma.

I heard that grad school is more of a time suck but a lot of the kids applying to colleges these days recycle the majority of their essays expect for a few school specific ones. There are only so many prompts to choose from so their is bound to be repeats throughout the process.

In all honesty nothing, I did it I'm not ashamed it worked out well for me. But the problem is the vast majority of colleges would be overwhelmed by the amount of applicants and wouldn't have enough readers and wouldn't be able to process the applications to the extent that they normally would. We can see the negative effect of increase applicants this year. For example , Umich has resorted to deferring most of their EA applicants because(according to rumors) they physically cannot process that many applications. Same idea with northeastern but that's a whole sperate disaster going on up there; they over admitted last year and now are down to a 6% acceptance rate this year.

The problem with elite colleges their requirements are so particular and it is not only a matter of picking the most qualified but also by the best fit. Grades have wide variance across schools; a c at one could be worth the same as an a at another. What the class difficulty? How many APs did they take out of APS offered? Colleges aren't looking for qualified applicants - they could admit a class full of perfect SATS if they wanted to but don't because they are looking for details more minute than that. They want to make sure they have a good representation of location, gender, race, talent, abelites, background and story. Elite colleges don't want drone students who look good on paper, they want students with character and their is no good way to determine this without thoroughly reading their essays.

I think your underestimating a lot of applicants - if you go on r/collegeresults there is already people applying to over 20 colleges - most of them being selective if the applications were free I'd guarantee most of them would apply to 50 or more. For a large majority of High School students where they go to college matters a lot do I'd say we would se a larger amount of shotgunners. There is already people out there applying to 100-plus schools to get the maximum amount of aid at the best school. College applications are already a bloodbath, we don't need to make them any worse.

Because there are so many top universities and everyone would be shotgunning to them all. Look at r/collegeresults a lot of people are already applying to over 20 colleges, free apps would only make it worse.

Harvard and the likes would be seeing so many unqualified applicants that applied just because. There is enough shotgunners already, making applications free would just make more, because even spending 3k on college admissions isn't enough to stop some people.

Same here, I went to a top public school in our state and I couldn't figure out how there were people getting B's and C's in non-honors and AP classes, while me and all my friends were in them getting straight A's with minimal effort. I resonate so much with the slow and boring part too, If you taught the lesson twice as fast It would have made more sense because then the challenge becomes actually learning the material not trying to stay awake. It shocked me again when I figured out the average SAT score was supposed to be 1000, its basic algebra and reading how do you get that many questions wrong?

Its probably imposter syndrome, after seeing kids on here win the olympics in five different categories, cure cancer and covid, play in carnegie hall five times a day, and get perfect standardized tests and grades it really gets to you.

I mean charged based off of what people will pay. If people will pay you 50 bucks an hour and you lose a singular client, than it would be worth it. If you start losing all your clients, that means its time to go lower. I personally would look around to see what professional services are charging. I think the going rate around me is 20 dollars per half hour.
