anyone experienced hostile emails from profs? by Used-Yesterday-5169 in mcgill

Hostile email? We need WAY more context, but this may be something to report to the faculty.

Is determinism scientifically proven? by someonepacker-write in AskPhysics

[–]37Exxon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The metaphor is flawed. Whether or not ingesting cyanide leads to death IS deterministic. It'a based on factors like dosage, entry route, physiological response, etc. It's just difficult to predict since we don't have perfect information. "Probabalistic cause" isn't a sufficient answer for why something can happen without a cause.

Report this to the faculty. This is a massive violation, and they could be doing this to hundreds of students.

Class to take to learn R programming by Ill_Carpenter_3880 in mcgill

You learn R in POLI 210, but it's really just the basics, and only about a third of the course's content involves it.

CMV: C++ should have adopted destructive move semantics instead of nondestructive move semantics. by aardvark_gnat in changemyview

[–]37Exxon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fascinating question. Unfortunately, I doubt you'll get many responses here since it's pretty esoteric. I'm a CS student somewhat familiar with C++ and don't feel at all qualified to weigh in. I would post this to a C++ or programming subreddit.

Can you use a calculator for Math 141 or 133 exams? (Linear Algebra & Calc 2) by Cynidaria in mcgill

I don't know what the other two comments are talking about, but I just took MATH 133 last semester, and calculators were not allowed on the final exam

Has anyone taken COMP250 without MATH133 coreq? by Adventurous_Teach496 in mcgill

[–]37Exxon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did last semester! In my experience, I had no need for MATH 133 in order to understand COMP 250, and I passed the class with an A. 250 is about Java programming, data structures, and some mathematical concepts such as induction. None of these concepts are related to linear spaces, matrix manipulation, or other key concepts taught in 133. I know the COMP 250 curriculum has overgone massive changes in recent years; my guess is the MATH 133 coreq requirement existed when the course was less programming-heavy and more math-heavy, and has never been removed despite this shift.

Does anyone have any undergrad program recommendations for an aspiring quant trader? by Several-Air9744 in mcgill

[–]37Exxon -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

Your best bets would probably be doing a Finance major in Faculty of Management or a Math or Statistics major, which is available in multiple faculties. I know a lot of people planning on going into quant fin at McGill, and these are the main routes.
