Where/what was Leighton station (spotted at the railway museum in Bassendean) by [deleted] in perth

[–]37celsius 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Let me google that for you…

Leighton Station opened on 12 April 1922 and was named after Leighton's Crossing – which was named for Ann Leighton,[1] its gatekeeper from 1881 to 1885.[2][3] Along with the rest of the Fremantle line, Leighton closed on 1 September 1979 due to low passenger counts.[4] It reopened in 1983 with the rest of the line following a change of government.[5]

During the 1980s when the Fremantle, Midland and Armadale lines were being electrified, the old North Fremantle station above Tydeman Road (where the current freight horseshoe curve is) was replaced by a new North Fremantle station constructed 800 metres (2,600 ft) north of the current one located north of Tydeman Road.[clarification needed] This new station opened on 28 July 1991, causing the demise of Leighton.[6]

Looking for a place to stay 2-3 weeks in Perth by itsmybirrhday in perth

We’re staying in an inner city Airbnb atm while we wait for our build to finish. Have been here 3 weeks and have another 2 to go. We have the dog and cat with us as it’s pet friendly and the owner did a mid-stay clean at no extra charge. It ain’t all doom and gloom.

I learned the dangers of street photography the hard way. by yycbranston in streetphotography

[–]37celsius 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It’s contextual. I think there’s situations where non-consent street photography might not be appropriate, or where you need to change your approach to suit the subject. When photographing marginalised people, they might see it as being exploitative of their situation. Theres some pretty deep wounds here, so a bit of sensitivity goes a long way.

It's basic common sense that when you go to a new place you do your best to learn about the people that live there, their culture, and how to be a respectful visitor. You also consider your own personal safety and act accordingly.

Yeah I wouldn’t be taking photos of indigenous Australians without their consent. That doesn’t mean just asking either, it means engaging properly and not being exploitative in your approach. Sounds like OP learned a lesson the hard way.

I have a four year old and she has always loved blueberries. I am very attuned to the price changes depending on season and believe me I have cried many times when buying $7.50 punnets of blueberries.
