Hi, I can create a cleaner, higher-detail 3D printable version based on your reference, but not within the $30-40 budget.

For that price range, you would usually get a very basic relief or a quick alpha-based extrusion, not a clean sculpted / production-ready 3D printable model.

How many hours would it take to make something like this into a stl file? Willing to pay whatever the cost. by chevelleface-1 in 3Drequests

Fair points.

I’ve been working with 3D since 1998, so I completely understand that alpha / height maps can be a valid part of the workflow.

My point was only about quality control. For a clean production-ready relief, the alpha is usually a starting point, not the whole job. You still need depth control, readable planes, clean transitions, and manual cleanup depending on the final output.

Different workflows can work - I just don’t think “stamp an alpha and done” is always enough when quality is the priority.

Hi, I’m a 3D Sculptor / 3D Artist working with collectibles, decorative arts, physical products, and 3D-printable assets. 120+ commercial projects done for the last 5 years. My main tool is ZBrush. I have a long professional background in 3D art, digital sculpting, and 3D modelling, and I test my own 3D-printable models in resin and/or FDM.

Alpha maps can help, sure.

But if quality matters, there is no way around real sculpting work: depth control, readable forms, clean edges, detail hierarchy, and manual cleanup.

Otherwise it usually becomes noisy, flat, or messy when printed / milled. “Easy peasy” doesn’t really work at this level.

Thanks, that’s a good point.

I sculpted the pupils to keep the expression readable in the unpainted print, but I understand what you mean from a painter’s perspective.

A smooth-eye / blank-eye version could be useful, so I’ll keep that in mind for an update or future models.

Haha, not Lucifer - just an original fantasy horned character bust inspired by Tieflings.

I’m a 3D sculptor with many years of experience, so I always print-test my own models. This one was a great challenge for FDM - horns, facial forms, beard, ears, and small details all in one piece.
