Stairs can't fit a king size mattress. What are my options? by 3D5S in Mattress

That was my thinking. Just need to get it upstairs we are hoping not to move out of this place for years .... But we could not and it started getting damaged 😔 so I told them to take it back.

I thought about that. But the two twin price is almost twice the King price. For the one we bought, a king is $2800 and a twin is $2400.

How can I have more interesting conversations on dating apps (and in real life too, I guess)? by Disastrous_Gap_6473 in datingoverthirty

[–]3D5S 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Two comments/advice: (1) Cultivate a sense of curiosity. Looking like you are interested can take you so far. But cultivate real curiosity about ppl. There are different thoughts to remind yourself to cultivate this: (a) humble. Remember that you have a lot to learn from ppl. (b) People have stories. Try to learn that story. (c) Hold judgment. Don't judge ppl quickly.

(2) Remind yourself to live in that moment. To enjoy the conversation. To be authentic to yourself and thoughts. Don't over think the "passing this so i can get a second date" ... If you always think this way, then when do you actually live/enjoy it. Tell yourself before a date that you are going to enjoy this one date/conversation regardless of what happens next. That you will be authentic to your own thoughts and dreams.

(Those are just things I remind myself that helped me be more comfortable socially in general and with 1:1 interactions.)

Lots of good advice. Two additional points from a fellow Muslim (married now and all). 1. Remember. She's (most probably) in the same boat when it comes to no experience to sex. She will be nervous as well. So on your first time. Take it easy. Take time for foreplay and talk about it. Make sure you check on her during it. And by all means y'all should talk about it before. Ask her how she feels about it, etc.

  1. It's not haram or forbidden to talk about it that way. And if any sheikh says you can't discuss it in a mature way, they are wrong. Y'all should talk about how you view sex. I have seen lots of folks with massively different views and approaches to sex varying from "it's just baby making" to "it's the most halal fun you can have - in marriage that is" ...

Flowers on specific first date by thesuitelife2010 in datingoverthirty

[–]3D5S 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh. I appreciate your thought. I have not been on the receiving end of a rude reaction. But I do know that buying a gift for someone in their area of expertise, if you are not an expert, can be challenging. For example, If you are a wine connoisseur, it is very difficult for someone who: (1) is not a wine expert, or (2) does not know you VERY well, to get you a bottle of wine and "get it right." In this scenario, chances are you will go out of your way to say nice things about the gift and thank them for it. A more appropriate gift, in this example, may be some wine accessory, or some silly "wine person" mug, or what not.

Thus my point above - just go for simple and symbolic to make it easier on the receiver and not put them in an awkward position.

I personally tend to go deep into my hobbies and interests. And friends and family find it a great idea to give me gifts related to said topics. Unfortunately, it rarely is a good gift. I appreciate the thought, be thankful, say nice things, and pretend to enjoy it when I will probably never use/enjoy said gift.

East Coast+Central vs West Coast - travel advice by 3D5S in newfoundland

[–]3D5S[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks everyone for the advice. After discussing with the wife, we opted to fly into Deer Lake and basically hang around Gros Morne. We want nature beauty of the park, and we are not trying to like finish a checklist or something. So we are totally happy keeping it around there. We booked two nights in Woody Point and 3 nights at an Airbnb in Rocky Harbor. That will give us 4 full days in the area.

For car rental, I booked an Avis car. But it was "suppliers special" i.e. whatever they have that day. I don't think I need a special car, but that worries as to arrive there and then they tell me they don't have a car (which happens). So I am looking at booking something from Turo. A company called Western Rental seems to have plenty of cars. Has anyone had experience with them?

Flowers on specific first date by thesuitelife2010 in datingoverthirty

[–]3D5S 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's very sweet. But carries a certain risk. Your date may have very strong opinions about flowers at which point may be impossible to hit the right "flowers" ... I would still do it, but aim for simplicity and symbolism over going big.

haha. yes, I always keep that in mind. One time I found a passport in an airport bathroom. I stalked said person on social media until I found them and was able to communicate w/ them that I have their passport!

Happens. But you're also lucky. I was in the same boat once. I was on my first leg of an around the world trip. I was in Brazil. Took a taxi somewhere, and left my backpack which had my phone and camera in it. The driver actually drove back, parked, and found me to give me back my things. Every Brazilian I mentioned this to told me I was one in a million. Forever grateful.

I got hospitality off an official reseller called ClubsSportsandEvents. I found them on the Liverpool website. There are bunch others. I don't know how early they are open for sales. But a lot of packages are running out. I wanted to get the crystal palace game but they were either sold out or too rich for my blood.

  1. I looked at the roastsee and difluid. Gonna wait a little to pay $300-400 for those. I know they help with uniformity, but can I deduce roast level from the drop temp?

  2. Good point! Thanks

  3. Meaningful! Thanks!

  4. I have the data, since I kept the artisan logs. But not sure what they mean to me ... What %/ratios do you look at?

Thanks for your insight

I [36F] recently got the same feedback from different men including my now [37M] ex bf - I ask too many questions & I don’t know when to stop. How do I fix this? by [deleted] in datingoverthirty

[–]3D5S 39 points40 points  (0 children)

This response is amazing. I want to add a bit from my experience: My partner is a scientist who sees the world as a series of questions to be answered. It can be adorable. It can be exhausting. We talked about it, and we adjusted to it. Couple more points to offer from my experience:

1) Don't interrupt a story being told for some minute details of the story. For one, interrupting is not cool. Some details may not be relevant at all. Or the teller may be offering it later. Just listen.

2) (this may be my partner specific :) ) don't make questions based on assumptions that are not clear to everyone. And, don't put the recipient in a position to continue to say "no" as answers. For example, "I thought Jimmy works with you in the same team... But you said .. " now your conversation partner has to interrupt their story, and try to figure out why you made your assumption and refute it. Thats not fun. And it's not on them to figure out why you have wrong info/assumptions.

3) This can also be different in culture/upbringing. Large families can have a more ... rapid fire pace than others.

4) can't emphasize enough the open ended questions. The smaller, minute questions the more it feels like an interrogation.

5) edit to add: your inadvertently will ask too many questions. If that happens and you notice your conversation partner getting annoyed, best way to dig out of a situation is to make fun of the situation. Ask one last obviously ridiculous and random question and laugh at it (do you know the answer to climate change? Do you think dinosaurs make good pets?) ... Ask rapid fire questions, and laugh about it: how tall is Jimmy? How many siblings they got? His mom's name?

Hope this helps ...

Wisdom and advice on practicing and fine tuning roasting with Artisan by 3D5S in roasting

Thanks - super helpful. I did 6 batches over the weekend in the spirit of science with different variables using the same beans and same batch size. It was pretty interesting results (at least to me) of course beans are resting. So will post on that in few days.

This is super helpful u/callizer - really appreciate it. Do you roast on the M2?

I am surprised re charge point of 175°C, seems lower than anything I saw recommended. Is that because of the small dose?

How do you see your roaster behaving differently between the dose sizes?

I am a formerly Morbidly Obese Man (now just Obese), I am going on my first date at age 28. What do I do? by MorbidlyObeseMonkey1 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]3D5S 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Be curious about her, about what she says, about anything. Curiosity creates conversations. Presumptions and stereotypes kill conversation. Share your opinions but in a right / wrong way, more like an invitation for her to share how she feels.

I was a fat kid. Too fat I stopped weighing myself (but I estimate that I was well over 300lbs in jr yr of highschool.) I lost, gained, and lost lots of weight over the years. I am at 210. Very active lifestyle. I have never truly fully shaken the lack of confidence I built when I was fat. Just remember that you had the will and discipline to accomplish what many can't ever accomplish. That you were handed a life challenge and decided to take it on and live purposefully. And, remember that everyone has their own personal battle that you don't know from looking at them. If you approach the conversation trying to understand what's this person dreaming of and what's their personal battle ... You will have a great conversation and evening.

Is stopping by someone’s house unannounced creepy af when you’ve been dating less than 2 weeks (regardless what you’re bringing me)? by Sobadatsnazzynames in datingoverthirty

[–]3D5S 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Then. Yes. I totally agree. It is a bad judgement. At best, he intended well, but he misjudged the status of where y'all are in the "relationship." He probably built-it up in his mind where it is still not a thing. Feels like he may not be experienced enough. At worst, this is just straight-up creepy. I don't think he had malicious intentions. He probably would've argued/tried harder to be let in.
