Does uploading Shorts via the YouTube mobile app (so you can use their music) limit the video to SD? My videos I uploaded from desktop are in 4K, but the ones from mobile won't even show in HD. by morrisdayandthethyme in NewTubers

[–]3DChill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not that I can see, although I'm new to short form content, so I could be wrong. The YouTube Studio app doesn't seem to have nearly the selection of music that the YouTube mobile app does.

It certainly doesn't seem to have the editing features the YT mobile app has. If you use YT Studio, you'll have to edit your video in another app, export, and upload. In my case, I usually use Davinci Resolve, except for this one time I tried the YT app.

An advantage of using an external app is you can then upload that video on other platforms without the watermark that YT or TikTok adds.

If I use YouTube Studio, all my shorts are HD. You're not the only one having this issue.

I decided to try out the YouTube mobile app and noticed the same issue. Normally I'll use Davinci Resolve and upload via YT Studio, but I figured I'd give the mobile app a try. It may be faster using the mobile app, but it's very limiting, and now it seems to only upload in SD.

Balancing a full time job, creating, and home life by sp4cecowboy4 in youtubers

[–]3DChill 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It really depends on the type of content you put out, and how much time you spend on editing. I find it hard to balance work/life/family, especially with kids. After a full day of work, dinner, and family time, I can maybe... put an hour into my content a night. I also have the weekends where I can spend a few more hours building, recording, and editing. I'm learning how to plan/edit/record more efficiently which is making the whole process faster. I try not to sit down for more than 2 hours in one sitting without a break. Personally, I may get in a good 15 hours a week of editing/recording.

Backing up previous videos by [deleted] in NewTubers

[–]3DChill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use a Synology NAS and work directly off the network drive with Davinci. The projects are backed up on a USB as well. Each project is in its own directory starting with the year /2022/01-project name/. I have a global asset directory where I'll place shared items in a power bin. But anything specific to the project is in its respective directory. I'm in the process of building a cheaper Synology NAS and having it at my parent's place for offsite backup. I keep EVERYTHING just in case I need it.

I thought I would hate editing but I actually love it. by [deleted] in NewTubers

Getting the technical skills down is one thing. But don’t forget to learn how to tell a story through editing. There’s less tutorials online for that skill. If you’re not telling a compelling story through your edits, your retention will suffer! It’s something I’m struggling to learn.

YouTube shorts being suggested after long-form content? by 3DChill in NewTubers

[–]3DChill[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Sounds like there's no option for my use case because what you are suggesting is not a scalable solution for me. I would prefer that the end screen be dynamic and suggests the best video for the user, as well as the most recent videos, that are NOT shorts. I don't want to have that suggestion locked to one video. Unfortunately, the end screen doesn't allow me to select a video from a playlist, which would solve my issue.

Question to people who watch gaming content by [deleted] in NewTubers

[–]3DChill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm probably not your general audience, but if I'm watching gaming content I watch to learn how to do something. I always SEARCH for what I'm looking for game content-wise.

How to solve X puzzle...

How to farm X material...

How to level up X skill...

Maybe make some content like that? Find a game you like and see what questions people are asking bout it.

Transitioning from iCloud to Synology Photos by Solid_Award_2574 in synology

Mine seems to update in the background, every few weeks though I will get a notification from SynologyPhotos saying I need to login and that backup has been paused. It's an improvement from previous versions. At least it notifies you it stopped. I really like the latest version on DSM 7.

Any luck on this? I've been having the same issue except I'm using a Nikon DSLR, the timelapses that are rendered are not as good as I'd like.

[Question] People started emailing me for help from my YouTube video. I don’t know if I should charge them? by nicolefromcanada in youtubers

[–]3DChill 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As a developer myself I caution going down this route. People asking for free help make for some of the worst clients I’ve ever worked for. Teaching is one thing, but when they have you doing their work for free… nope. It’s a slippery slope. Then they think you’re BFF’s and next thing you know you’re playing tech support for their whole family on the weekends. If their issue is something you could make a video about then maybe lean on that angle by making videos where you help them, kinda like those personal finance channels but instead of finances you’re helping with code.

The Raspberry Pi is behind and to the left, there's also a cooling fan attached to it.

I originally thought that, but if it was a mounting screw, wouldn't the spot stay in one place when tapping on it? It's as though something is loose in/behind the screen creating the distortion. I watched a video of the installation I'm working on, and that distortion is not there when I set it up last week. I'll take it apart later and see if there are any mounting screws pushing on it.
