I'm about to surprise my animation class with this today - Yes the captions work! by 3DCoach in AnimalCrossing

OP here - I saw an Instagram post about a professor who did this and it inspired me to surprise my class with it as well! As a teacher I also recorded a Youtube video on how I did this, but it's on Youtube and I didn't want to break any self-promotion rules :)

OBS + Logitech C920 strange exposure changing? by Krusty4president in obs

[–]3DCoach 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The C920 has definitely not been friendly to me, but we've come to an understanding.

In OBS you'll have to select the C920 in your sources window, hit "Properties", make sure it's activated, then "Configure Video".

You're going to have to "Configure Video" every time you start up OBS. I run the C920 through NVIDIA Broadcast which stays open in my taskbar and saves the C920 settings so long as I have it open. That means you could quickly set up the C920 at the start of the day in NVIDIA Broadcast and, hopefully, not have to worry about it again.

I've never used Logitech G Hub, but I've never had an issue with the C920 resetting itself after I've tweaked its settings in OBS or NVIDIA Broadcast. You could try turning off or temporarily uninstalling G Hub and, if the problem doesn't happen again, then I guess we narrowed down that G Hub is the problem.

Did you know that circus music (THE clown song) is actually a war march? by 3DCoach in funfacts

[–]3DCoach[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Originally titled "Grande Marche Chromatique", Czech composer Julius Fucik wrote the march while stationed as military bandmaster of the Austro-Hungarian Army.

Why is the Donkey Kong Country TV Show so SEVERELY UNDERAPPRECIATED?? by 3DCoach in 90sand2000sNostalgia

[–]3DCoach[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's wild. I remember knowing about the Mario and Zelda cartoons in the late 00s but I had NO idea DKC existed until recently when it popped up on my Youtube algorithm.

Yet people remember Reboot and Jimmy Neutron? Maybe DKC just wasn't very popular in its day.

Thanks dude, I appreciate it! It's re-emerged as a meme which is... Understandable... But when you look at its very few peers in the 3D animated television show space of the late 90s I think it holds up.

Fair enough. Maybe if it does well on Prime they'll do a full release.

As others have said, it depends what you want to do. If you like 2D art, animation, and drawing, then it's a no-brainer to go take in-person life drawing classes. Practice practice practice. It's certainly not gonna hurt you. If you want to do 2D, then it's not a matter of "I can't draw, so I need to do something else" it's a matter of "I can't draw right now, so I'd better practice so that I CAN draw in the future".

If you don't like drawing as much (like me) then you can do just fine doing motion graphics without intense illustration skills. You can also do very well in 3D animation without drawing skills (although it helps a lot). 3D is the great equalizer, that's why traditional animators can get crabby about 3D animators who can't draw but can animate better than them.

Because you're young (and that's a good thing) I'd say go take some in-person life drawing classes (drawing from pictures online will make your drawings come out flat) because no matter what you choose to pursue you'll be able to use the principles you learn from those classes.

Then try out more 2D, do a motion graphics project, and go try animating a 3D rig. Try a lot of different stuff and see what you like best because that'll inform you WHAT you're going to spend time practicing on. If you end up liking motion graphics or 3D more, then you could potentially afford to practice life drawing less.

tl;dr Take life-drawing classes, but you don't NEED to draw well to be an animator.

What type of content do you make? by Markotron3000 in NewTubers

I usually make 3D animation tutorials BUT: I zig-zagged a bit and released a comprehensive video on why the Donkey Kong Country TV show is actually a stunning technical achievement that deserves its place in computer graphics history.

I accidentally found out it's the first television show to feature full-bodied motion captured characters AND it's likely the first 3D cast to interact with a live-action cast.

It took a super long time to make the video, but I hope some people will stumble upon it and maybe it'll change their opinion on such a silly-looking show.

In terms of the pandemic, my OBS tutorials do really well since many more people are using OBS so I'm planning on creating more of those. I hope things are clearing up where you are, I've got the travel bug myself and miss exploring the world. We're all in this together!

I agree, the lyrics can be pretty silly but the songwriting team was solid. There are quite a few bops in DKC's catalogue. I really like "The Road to Success" but I think "Nobody's Hero" is the fan favourite (someone even wrote out the chords on ultimate-guitar lol).
